Sasquatch Siting

Nike Sasquatch DriverI’ve written about the Nike Sasquatch driver before, but I finally saw it in person this weekend for the first time when I was at Dick’s Sporting Goods. The driver has one of the biggest heads on a golf club that I’ve ever seen, but it’s one of the lightest drivers I’ve held in my hands. The sweet spot on the Sasquatch has to be huge, so I don’t know how you could hit a bad shot with the thing. I bet I could hit a nice 100 yard slicer with it though. That’s how much “control” I have in my swing. They are really hyping this club up so when you get a chance check it out.

Slowing Down

Thursday night I went to a sleep clinic to try and figure out my sleeping problems so Friday was going to be a sick day until a storm hit and SVSU closed for the day anyways. After getting home around 6:30am I decided to play some poker for a few hours. Big mistake!

I went to 4 tables of $5/10 limit like I had mentioned in the last post. Towards the end of my 3-4 hour session I missed about my last 20 flush draws. It was unreal. Most of the time I either had the nut draw so I had an ace for 3 more outs or I already had a pair so I could have hit 2 pair or trips to win as well. I didn’t win a damn one. Those draws should have been hitting by the river 33% of the time. Instead I hit none and lost 1/5 of my bankroll.

I’ll be moving back down to $3/6 for awhile until I can get my head on straight again. Or I might try out some tournaments. Maybe I’ll even get into Omaha 8/b like I’ve planned to for nearly 6 months.

Sorenstam, Creamer, and Wie Rank 1, 2, and 3

The first Woman’s World Golf Ranking came out this morning. Sorenstam at the top of the list was no surprise. Having Michelle Wie debut at the third position was a bit odd since she has only played in 15 tournaments during the past two years, which is the time period used for the ranking. It’s nice to finally see a world ranking like the men have had for some time.

Nickels and Dimes

I’m still playing the $5/10 limit games on Party Poker. I haven’t played more than two tables at a time yet, but might try 3 or 4 soon. I’m feeling more and more comfortable with the stakes of play. The biggest differences from the lower limit games are there are more opportunities to steal and you tend to need better hands to win a large pot.

Hybrid Clubs

Travelling Golfer pointed out an article from Pub Links Golfer Magazine Online about hybrids. In today’s market, the hybrid clubs are quickly becoming a popular part of most golf club sets. Last year I replaced 3 of my long irons with hybrids and experienced great results. You’ll want to read the article for the full info, but here are a few highlights…

Historically, long irons have been the most difficult clubs to hit for both recreational golfers and touring professionals.

Hybrid clubs make the game so much easier and enjoyable that it’s amazing to consider they barely existed only a few years ago.

Today’s new-look hybrids account for close to 20 percent of the total metal wood market. As the category grows, so do the options in terms of performance, head styling, loft and trajectory. Hybrids give golfers the ability to dial in long-game distances and ball flights much like wedges do for our short game.

Watch Your Cart

I just went to purchase ER – The Complete Fourth Season from Amazon and made it all the way to the final step of checkout before realizing my total was over $1,500! My first thought was “That’s an expensive DVD.” Then I realized I still had an Apple iMac G5 in the shopping cart from a week ago. Kind of a neat little trick on Amazon’s part, but not very customer friendly if you ask me. A few clicks later the item was removed and my total price was normal again, but I would not have been a happy camper to find a new computer delivered to my doorstep (unless it was free).

Self Improvement

I’ve written about being satisfied before and some of my recent posts have hinted at at the fact that I’m not satisfied with myself. In the last couple of weeks I’ve started more changes in my life than at any other time. I’ve attempted to make similar self improvements before and always ended up reverting to my old ways. This time is much different. I’m 100% committed this time around and I’m feeling great.

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.

–Tolstoy

If we aren’t happy with life we have no one to blame but ourselves. There comes a point when you realise this and make the necessary changes. Self improvement can be one of the most gratifying feelings in the world. Step back and look at your self in the mirror. What are you disappointed with? What can you change? How are you going to change it?

My changes:

  • Exercise on a daily basis.
  • Eat healthier.
  • Drink more water.
  • Take better care of my teeth by brushing more often (with a great Oral-B Triumph toothbrush), using mouthwash, and buying products that contain Xylitol.
  • Made an appointment with a doctor to talk about my sleeping problems.
  • Moved to a safer part of town which also means a shorter drive to work and area stores.

What are you going to do?
