I usually try to keep my bankroll around $3,000 and if it gets much higher I pull some money out of Neteller for investments, bills, and whatever else. 300 big bets is the recommended bankroll for limit poker, so I’ve had the roll to play $5/10 for over a year. Scared? Most likely.
Catch the Golf Fever
It seems like every year around February I start to get a case of golf fever. Thanks to our lovely Michigan weather, my last round of golf was on September 17th, which is almost 5 months ago. It seems like an eternity now that I count up the months.
The PGA Tour gets back into the swing of things in late January and early February, which means we have golf on TV again. There’s something about seeing the pros smoke long drives and sink putts that gets the juices flowing again. The Hooked on Golf Blog is running a fantasy golf league with some great prizes donated by sponsors so this has helped to give me a bit of the itch as well.

I haven’t even touched a golf club since that last round in September, unless you count the club I have sitting at the desk in my office. A new golf center just opened in the area and it has a heated outdoor driving range, so I’m pretty excited to give it a try. My goal is to have the rust knocked off my game for the start of the Michigan golf season by hitting a bucket of golf balls every week or two.
James Blunt – Back to Bedlam
I’ve really been enjoying James Blunt’s album Back to Bedlam.

Get Fit
Two weeks ago my weight topped out at 197 pounds. Right then I knew it was time for some changes. I’d hit 195 before, but for some reason the 7 on the end affected me a lot more. It’s only 3 pounds away from 200, which I never hope to hit, even in my later years. I sure as hell didn’t want to hit 200 at 26!
I bought a Pro-Form Elliptical 130 XP last week as a first step. A great feature of the machine is it can be hooked up to a computer and linked up to an account on ifit.com. Right now I’m testing out the trial membership which allowed me to enter some information and I was given a workout program. With the elliptical connected to my computer the resistance is controlled by an audio cable and I get workout routines that are built to my fitness level. I’ve only used it twice so far, but I really like it.
I’ve also tried out some yoga and pilates routines that I downloaded found on the Internet. For those that don’t know, both are workouts that focus a lot on breathing. From my limited knowledge, yoga focuses more on holding a stretching motion, while pilates incorporates more movement into the stretching. Both are very relaxing and can be done anywhere.
Everyone knows excercise by itself won’t do everything, so I’m also attempting to eat a little healthier. My goal is to get down to 180 pounds where I should be. I figure I should be able to do this by the end of March at the latest. I also want to feel better about the state of my body and gain more energy.
Wish me luck!
Super Sunday
More like shitty as far as the Super Bowl went. I didn’t see the National Anthem, but I heard it from the other room and I swear my ears started to bleed. The refs continued their string of horrible calls in the 2006 playoffs by screwing Seattle out of a touchdown that anyone could see was not offensive pass interference. The game itself was rather boring I thought except for the WR to WR TD pass. The Rolling Stones have made some good music in their time, but there also comes a time when you have to hang ’em up. Watching 60+ year-old men dancing around on stage is not my idea of entertainment. It’s a miracle one of them didn’t break a hip.
We had a few people over to our new place and it was a good time. Little Caesar’s $3.33 medium pepperoni pizzas were the choice food and a few beers were killed to go along with it.
Super Bowl Weekend
I played a little poker over the weekend. I also played a little poker about as bad as I could.
Before the Super Bowl we ran a couple of mini $5 tournaments. In the first tournament I was the first one out of 4 people. It only took two hands. The second time around I was second to go out of 5 people. Never bluff a calling station.
Later after the game… By the way, that had to be one of the worst all-around Super Bowls I can remember. The national anthem sucked, the refs sucked for the millionth time in this year’s playoffs, the half-time show sucked, and the game was rather boring. So later that night I fired up Party Poker and saw the Bad Beat Jackpot was over $250,000. Might as well play for a couple of hours. I donked off somewhere between $100 and $200. The next morning I woke up and the BBJ still hadn’t hit so I said why not and played again. There went another $250 or so.
My poker game isn’t running well at all this year. It might be time to switch it up and learn Omaha 8/b for a change of pace.
Taking Time Off
I’ve taken way too much time off from posting here at Primary Rough. I seemed to have started the blog and only kept at it for a couple of weeks. I never meant to post daily, but I sure meant to post more than once ever couple of months!
Speaking of time off, it looks like taking some time away from the golf course can really help a player’s game. Tiger Woods went 24 days without swinging a club and then won his first tournament of the year last week at the Buick Invitational. Retief Goosen went 5 weeks without touching a golf club and is tied for the lead in Dubai right now.
As a weekend hacker during the Michigan summers I’ve found that I sometimes play my best game after taking a week off from golf. Golf is such a mental game that I think it really helps to get away now and then to clear our heads. Twenty-four days or 5 weeks are probably too long for us normal folk, but for professionals who play every day it’s probably right on par. I know it takes me a couple of weeks after the winter to find my swing again.
Kung-Fu Master
I had completely forgot about the game Kung-Fu Master, but remember played it for hours on my Nintendo Entertainment System. One of the greatest games of all-time.
2005 WSOP on ESPN
I finished watching the the broadcasts of the Main Event of the 2005 World Series of Poker a couple of weeks ago. I was only 3 months late, but that’s the beauty of having a DVR. I enjoyed the coverage more than the last two years and I’ll even admit that I enjoyed watching Mike […]
