When I go out to eat I expect good service from my waiter/waitress. You don’t have to be over the top, but I don’t want to feel neglected. I expect a fresh drink when my glass is full. Bring the check after we’re done eating or if we’re taking a really long time at least ask if we’d like our check at that point. Come back to the table to see how things are going, but don’t come so often that I don’t have time to eat my food and enjoy the company I’m with. My sister has been a waitress since high school so maybe I have high standards when I go out to eat.

Last night I went out to Hooters with my brother and some of his roommates. They have $6 pitchers and $0.35 wings for Monday night football each week. The view isn’t too bad either. I ordered a pitcher of beer figuring a friend would show up and he’d help me drink it. It turns out he was already there and I didn’t see him with some other people when I did a quick look through the place. So…needless to say, I had a whole pitcher to myself.

I’m not a fast drinker by any means, but I don’t milk it either. I like to enjoy my beer. Last night it was hard to do because of our waitress. Anyone who has been to Hooters knows that they usually come by to do all of the beer filling (I think it’s just so that they can lean over the table a few more times and try to show off for an extra tip). Well, our waitress made it a point to come and fill up my glass each time I took 2-3 drinks. I’m not exaggerating either. My beer was only lower 2/3 full or less 3 times during the night; when she poured the beer, once when she was busy on other tables, and then when I finished off the beer. Most of the time I had no more than an inch of glass to fill with beer. She was persistent though…I’ll give her that one.

After I had drank about a half a glass of beer and she had refilled me 4-5 times I finally said, “Are you trying to get me drunk?” She wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, so she didn’t catch on and kept coming back. I’d rather do my staring from a distance than up close when I can get caught!

If she hadn’t come back so much she probably would have gotten a nice tip from me, but instead I left a little over the normal 15%. I try to never leave less than 15%, but have done it before. You have to be pretty horrible for me to screw you on a tip though. Normally I’ll leave 18-20% for quality service. Do me right and I’ll do you right.
