Ready To Quit

I’m seriously ready to quit. That’s how bad it’s going. If I wasn’t witness to the string of bad beats I’m going through I wouldn’t have believed it was possible. Seriously…it’s that bad. I’ve bled off 1/3 of my bankroll in a week. No lie. My opponents gut shot straight draws are hitting much more often than my flush draws. Go figure. I really hate complaining, but I’m going to lose my mind. I’ve checked my stats with Poker Tracker and I’m still playing tight. I’m betting my big hands. It’s not like it’s rocket science at these low limits.

I’m not even going to go into details by posting any hand histories, because it would turn into a novel. Besides, who wants to read them anyways. It just goes to prove…the fish aren’t just playing at Party Poker. They are in full force at UB (sign up with “mtdewvirus” as your referrer) and they are sucking out on me in record fashion.

Maybe I should come up with a new hobby. But what hobby out there allows you to make money. Or lose it I should say. 1/3 of the bankroll in a week. Think about that. That’s over 200 BB at $2/4. I wish I could have a week where I came out ahead that much. I’ll need a couple of those just to recover.

What really hurts is the fact that it’s not only the bad beats that are killing my bankroll. I can’t hit a huge draw to save my life. Flush draws are out the window. The same with open-ended straight draws. What about FD + OESD? Yeah right. Or FD + gut shot straight draw? Do I even need to answer?

Does anyone know any prayers to the poker gods? Maybe a rain dance?

  1. I once knew a guy that had such a losing streak and stopped it cold by sticking his thumb up his ass. Of course, this was at a B&M room, and the losing streak ended by him being kicked out… but it worked! And I… err, he is still playing today. 😉

Actually I’m going to take a few days away from the ring games. I have some things to take care of on my other web sites anyways. I do have a freeroll tomorrow on UB that I qualified for. Top 5 get a trip to LA, so I think I’ll take a shot at it. Other than that, I don’t think I’m going to play any until the weekend.

  3. Nick, I can sympathize… it’s been a rough few weeks for me too. Trust me, there’s still plenty of fish having suckouts aplenty at PP. I haven’t run quite as bad as you this week, but it’s obviously pretty frustration to be playing a “good” game and still drop 100 BBs over two days. Remember Iggy’s post from a few days back tho; the same people that are sucking out on you are going to be the ones calling you all the way down with bottom pair when the cards start to come. Taking a few days off should help you focus. While I don’t like losing, I would have to say that having these bad streaks is the most important part of my learning of the game; to detach from individual results and focus on playing correctly every time… it’s a Zen struggle, but I’m getting better at it.

  4. I’m definately not having a good run lately, so for Lent i’m giving up gambling, and just having fun in freerolls. Actually, giving up poker period for a couple weeks might not be that bad.. maybe I can store up some luck for a comeback after Easter.. lol.

Some advice, loosen up. Low-limit poker is a big aquarium. You might have to blend in to take them out. *Switches to different animal analogy* a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Especially since they are not going to pay attention to the fact that you have only played premium hands. Put the bad beat on them for once.

  5. I feel ya… First time on your site, btw… very nice. I can tell ya what works for me in these situations, though. I just switch sites for a while. Find a good bonus opportunity and make a switch. I almost invariably changes my luck and gives me the satisfaction of taking the rake i would have payed the site that’s been crackin’ my head.

  6. Hang on in there. It happens to everyone at some point. I had a few painful sessions this week, then one hand was all it took to bring me back to life.

If you are thinking about the game enough to write well on it, you are not going to be a long term losing player.

  7. I was on an incredible run of about 400 bucks then hit a brick wall and have lost on 10 straight sessions. I’ve lost 150. One day off and back to the drawing board. Thats alot when you play 1/2 or lower and

.25/.50 NL. I feel your pain. Like someone said, ya gotta get in their with the garbage sometimes. When you hit you’ll get 2 or 3 capping all the way to the river.

  8. Hey bro, you’re not the only one unable to catch a straight or flush draw. We’ve played a ton of games this last week and it’s happening in RC also. They just are not coming. It’s been a bad weekend for me also. Good luck.
