Today I received an email forward from a friend with a bunch of Andy Rooney quotes. I’ve received similar messages a few times before and each time I read them I like Rooney more and more.
Here are a few of the items from the email:
I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.
I don’t think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
I have the right “NOT” to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off. When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.
In addition to these examples, I found a website with a whole page full of Andy Rooney thoughts. It makes for interesting reading material.
these are some pretty interesting quotes

This self-righteous rant was not written by Andy Rooney, George Carlin, Ted Nugent or any of the other celebrities to whom it has been attributed. First posted by a regular contributor on a conservative discussion forum in 2000, it has circulated via email ever since under a variety of titles and bylines.

It sure does sound like a lot of the stuff Andy Rooney says.

I agree with it all. Whoever said it, it rings true to me. It’s our country, so other races should follow our lead, not mess up the parade. If it’s right for one, it has to be right for all. Americans tolerate other churches, other’s points of view, etc., and no one is jailed for being different. Not that everyone has to agree or promote everyone else’s ideas. People say it’s better now than it used to be. Is it? Look around you. I don’t think so.

What a dumbass. Andy Rooney may be a grouch curmudgeon, but he’s not the racist, theocratic, gun-drooling asshole who wrote that rant.
Here’s proof that the quotes are 100 percent fake:

Be a little more skeptical and maybe you won’t get fooled so much.

These remarks are not those of Andy Rooney and Ido not agree with them all but there a few that I do agree with.

I agree with much of it, too. I would have more respect for the senders if Andy Rooney had actually said it, which he did not. The piece is just over four minutes’ running time, a minute longer than a Rooney piece on 60 Minutes. Much of it is in a style decidedly not Rooney’s.
If someone wants to offer these ideas as his or her own, that would be fine. But saying it’s Andy Rooney to make it more credible is a lie, and thus shows a lack of integrity.

To Mark who wrote a comment on 12/26/2005:
Whoever wrote that artical is talking to people who were born here and are trying to make money to feed their families. If you do not like non-white people living here, I bet you can blame YOUR ancestors for the fact that this continent is so diverse. And guess what, I am Caucasian and heterosexual, and I believe in God, so I’m standing up for groups of which I do not belong. I will gladly be friends with the people of the groups who include other ethnicities, sexual orientation, and spiritual belief or non-belief.
