It’s All Free Time

Sometimes people ask where I find the time to exercise so much or do so many hobby projects. I know it’s a serious question, but I often laugh inside. Beyond the time you spend at your job, everything else is free time.

Most adults decided years ago how to spend a lot of their free time by being in a relationship, getting married, having kids, and/or having a pet. All of those take a lot of time; time no longer available for other things you might want to do. I’m single with no kids and not pet. Whenever I’m not working, I can do whatever I want.

If you really want to do something, you’ll find/make the time for it.

Here are a couple of good Instagram posts related to time management.

I Need Time for a Redesign

I didn’t mean for that post title to rhyme, but it did and I’m not changing it.

I’ve wanted to pump out a redesign of MDV for a long time now. The homepage will get a drastic change with areas asides (what I call quickies here), recent full posts, flickr photos, links, menu, and who knows what else. Single post pages will get a nice reworking with a better layout of comments, trackbacks, post info, ads, etc. Archives will become more organized so that it’s easier to access posts by date, tags, and searching.

This all takes time and I really don’t see it happening or probably even getting started until at least September. It’s been the busiest summer in years for me and I still haven’t done a lot of the things I’ve wanted to. I’ve had some decent ideas for posts I think would be neat, but I’m going to put them on hold until things get cleaned up around MDV.

If nothing else, this post will serve as a reminder of what I want to do.

Enjoying the Weather Among Other Things

I’ve been enjoying the weather for the past several weeks which means spending less and less time on the computer. That also means less time for blogging and less updates here as well as my other blogs. I’ve also cut back on my poker playing dramatically which takes away computer time as well. This is all a good thing.

Time has been spent golfing as much as possible and getting my bike out. Just the other day I rode 15 miles in an hour and felt great. I need to be ready to ride about 24 miles with hills in three weeks when I go up north for Mother’s Day. The plan is to ride around Hubbard Lake with Mo and kick his ass. He’s been talking a little bit too much shit and I don’t like to lose many challenges. Just ask him about our weight loss competition for last week!

I’m still using my elliptical 3-4 days a week in addition to bike rides and doing some ab workouts as well. I’m down about 15 pounds from two and a half months ago and feeling good.

Golf league started this week and I might be joining a summer bowling league with some friends that starts on May 2nd. I like to keep busy during the summers and get out as much as possible which is completely different from the cold Michigan winters.

My sleep problems are pretty much under control now. I’m on Lunesta which has been doing the trick. I tried Ambien CR and some other new drug that start with an R, but Lunesta worked the best by far. It’s amazing what a good night of sleep does for the body.

In a few days I should be able to reveal the secret I mentioned a few weeks ago. It’s been taking up a lot of my thinking and I can’t wait to get it over with and out in the open. Maybe then I’ll be able to resume a regular blogging schedule. What “regular” actually means for blogging I’m not quite sure anymore.

Is Midnight AM Or PM?

The power went out in my house at some point yesterday so when I got home from work all of the clocks were blinking and my computer was off. Not a big deal. Right? Wrong!

I didn’t get around to setting my alarm clock until after midnight because I didn’t have a need to use it until I was setting the alarm. No matter how many times I’ve set a clock in my life, I always go right past 12 a couple of times before realizing that it comes after 11. I don’t know what it is. Maybe I’m just too quick on the buttons. So I finally settled on 12, set the minutes, and set the alarm time. Time to get some sleep.

In the morning I rolled over at about 6:50 and noticed that I still had another 10-15 minutes to sleep. Always a welcome fact. So I closed my eyes and drifted back to sleep. I roll over again and the clock now shows 7:42! WHAT THE FUCK! I quickly notice a dot in the corner of the display, which means the time is set for 7:42 PM. This is where I start to feel like a complete dumb ass…as I should. It’s not the first time that something like this has happened, but usually it’s the alarm time that I’ve set incorrectly.

So I end up 30 minutes late for work and I feel stupid. I can’t even tell time correctly. Maybe I should convert to military time.
