Texas Hold'em Odds

I found a very useful pre-flop calculator to see what your chances are with particular hands. The same site also provides a very detailed odds chart which is useful for comparing to pot odds. I think this chart will be my new study guide. Any poker player who wants to be serious should memorize these […]

Party Poker and Poker Tracker

With my recent switch to Party Poker, I decided to give Poker Tracker a try. Let me tell you…it’s one fine piece of software for the online poker player. The program allows you to import your hand histories from a number of online poker sites. It stores everything in a database and gives you so many statistics about how you play it’ll blow your mind. In the next few days I’ll be making the $55 purchase to register the software. I get to import 1000 hands to try it out, but that won’t last long.

Earlier in the week I made the switch to Party Poker because I’ve heard such great things about the games there. I’ve been reading Small Stakes Hold ’em: Winning Big With Expert Play and Party Poker has all the fish, so I figured it would be a good site to work on my poker game. So far in three sessions of play I’m averaging 20 BB/hr, so there definitely is money to be made. I know that rate won’t last long, but it sure feels good now!

For other beginners out there trying Poker Tracker, I found a page explaining how to track your progress.

VOIP

VOIP, it’s the greatest thing on earth. Someone accidentally cut a line of fiber somewhere on campus today so about about 800 students are left without Internet access, but they can’t call us because their phones don’t work either. It’s great! 5 students have actually been smart enough to realize that their cell phones still […]

All I Can Say Is WOW!!

My TV is amazing! I’ve never seen a better picture before watching DVDs or playing XBOX. Mo came over last night, I whooped his ass in NBA Live and then we watched a movie.

Both my DVD player and the XBOX output an HD signal and the picture is unbelievable. Movies and games have never looked to real. Combine that with my surround sound and it’s better than being in a movie theater.

I’m definitely happy with my choice. One thing I’m a little disappointed with is that digital cable is exactly the same as analog. I seriously could not tell the difference between the two. So…I’m going to disconnect our digital. The reason being, when the digital cable box is connected to the TV, some of the features don’t work as they do when using analog cable. I can get the sweet Twin-View? feature to work, but it’s a PITA and is so simple to use when using analog cable.

I’ve had the TV for less than a day, so I really couldn’t recommend it yet, but I don’t have any complaints yet either. I’m glad that I bought the matching stand for the TV, because it really looks great. The stand appears as an extension of the TV the way it is designed.

Charter Communications is supposed to be rolling out HDTV in the Saginaw area in a few months and I can’t wait. ESPN HD is going to be kick ass on this thing.

BIG Purchase!

Sony Grand WegaI just made the purchase of my life! I bought a 50″ Grand WEGA LCD rear projection TV (KF-50WE610).

Joel over at ABC Warehouse hooked me up with some sweet deals. I got the TV for $2870, which is $430 cheaper than the price at Circuit City, Best Buy, and Sony. I also bought the 5 year extended warranty on it, because on such a big purchase it’s a must. The bulbs in this type of TV usually go out after 4 or 5 years and some people have experienced more frequent bulb changes. Each new bulb is $200+ and that doesn’t even count the cost to have it installed. If I have the bulb replaced once during the warranty period, I’ve paid for the service plan. If after 5 years I haven’t used the extended warranty at all, I can get half of it back. I also purchased the stand that you see in the picture, which is made specifically for this TV. I got $50 off of the stand and Joel also threw in an extra $50 gift card. I was approved for Sony credit so I have no payments and no interest until June of 2005. This deal is so good you can’t beat it with a stick!

A New Puter

I ordered a new computer today from Dell. They have a pretty sweet deal going on right now for a server. It has a free upgrade from a Celuron processor to a Pentium 4 2.26 GHz, comes with a 40 GB hard drive, and all the basics. It doesn’t come with any software, but I plan to install Linux on it, so that’s not a big deal. The only real thing it needs is a memory upgrade since it comes with a wimpy 128 MB. I should be able to pick up 512 MB for under $100. So it cost me $423 for the server, has a $100 mail in rebate, and free shipping. After purchasing the extra memory it’ll cost me about $400 for the new computer. My tax refund will be put to good use! 🙂

Technology Rules…

…my life. There is no question about it. I do all of my banking and pay most of my bills online. I store all phone numbers in my cell phone. Any addresses I need to remember are stored in my email address book. I schedule all of my appointments on the calendar in my email system. Everyone’s birthday is stored in this calendar as well. At home I use ATnotes which allows me to have Post-It style notes right on my computer’s desktop, instead of all over my desk on little pieces of paper.

I use the Internet to look up everything from movie times, driving directions, phone numbers, and sports scores. I order clothes, toys, and computer equipment online. I did my taxes online. Sometimes, I talk to people online with the use of Instant Messengers instead of calling them. I communicate with my Mom and Dad through daily emails.

What would happen to my life is something happened to my phone and I lost access to computers? I’d be lost. I wouldn’t be able to get ahold of anyone. I wouldn’t know my schedule for the week. I’d forget everyone’s birthday. Seriously…what did people do 20 years ago? I can’t imagine life without the Internet and everything that computers allow us to do.
