King Par Tent Sale

King Par‘s annual tent sale ends tomorrow (Sunday), so we stopped by today. It was like being a kid in the candy store! You can’t even imagine how much golf equipment and clothing they had on sale. It was unreal. Boxes and boxes of gloves, irons, woods. Shelves packed full of shoes. Rows of tables stacked with golf balls.

I bought a new pair of Adidas golf shoes ($40) and a new driver. I’ve been interested in a new driver since a week ago with I hit someone else’s club during league. Sure enough, King Par had a whole box full of them. I bought a Wilson Deep Red II Maxx with 9.5 degrees of loft and a stiff shaft. Maybe it will be the cure to my driving woes. Or at least I hope it will! For $99, I couldn’t pass up the deal. Wilson’s site suggests $449.99 for the club and when I was doing some research I had found it for $150 on Ebay. It’s not very often you can find something cheaper than on Ebay, unless it’s used. Somehow I even managed to get the head cover for free when they had them marked as $5.

If it turns out that I don’t like the club, I can turn around and sell it for an easy profit. Dad and I golfed 18 today in some perfect weather. I shot a 42-49 and he shot 42-44. Out of 18 holes I hit one good drive with my 3-wood and the rest were shit, so those scores aren’t bad at all. I think we’re playing again tomorrow, but there will be none of this getting beat by the old man again! Actually…I was down by 3 strokes with 4 holes to play on the front 9 and parred the last 4 holes to even things up. On the back 9, I just couldn’t hit a tee shot. Tomorrow is another day.

Update: Dad and I shot 18 again at the same course, but started on the back 9 today. I shot 41-44 and Dad shot 47-45, so I made up for yesterday (as I said I would). I hit the new driver pretty good a few times, but my swing with the woods needs some work. We both started out with an 8 on the first hole of the day (#10), but then I played the next 8 holes in 1 over with 3 birdies. In fact, I birdied 3 of the par 4s on the day. It was a fun weekend, but I’m tired from walking 36 holes of golf and being out in the sun for 8 hours.

BIG Purchase!

Sony Grand WegaI just made the purchase of my life! I bought a 50″ Grand WEGA LCD rear projection TV (KF-50WE610).

Joel over at ABC Warehouse hooked me up with some sweet deals. I got the TV for $2870, which is $430 cheaper than the price at Circuit City, Best Buy, and Sony. I also bought the 5 year extended warranty on it, because on such a big purchase it’s a must. The bulbs in this type of TV usually go out after 4 or 5 years and some people have experienced more frequent bulb changes. Each new bulb is $200+ and that doesn’t even count the cost to have it installed. If I have the bulb replaced once during the warranty period, I’ve paid for the service plan. If after 5 years I haven’t used the extended warranty at all, I can get half of it back. I also purchased the stand that you see in the picture, which is made specifically for this TV. I got $50 off of the stand and Joel also threw in an extra $50 gift card. I was approved for Sony credit so I have no payments and no interest until June of 2005. This deal is so good you can’t beat it with a stick!

Weekend Update

As you can probably tell from my posts this weekend, I’ve been messing/hacking with my site. I believe I made at least 3 posts related to web design. It really was a “geek” weekend for me.

On Saturday, I didn’t crawl out of bed until 1:30, which may be a new record. I never showered or changed my clothes the whole day actually. Woke up in the same clothes today that I fell asleep in Friday night. That might be another first for me. Showering is how I usually wake up for the day, but somehow I didn’t need it yesterday. I spent most of Saturday sitting right here at my computer, hacking code for WordPress, installing TFS Statistics, and tweaking other things on my site. Late that night I finally decided to watch a movie.

Today I’ve been busy doing laundry, taking out the garbage, and a few other things around the house. After Heather came back from the weekend at Steve’s we made a trip down to Prime Outlets in Birch Run for some shopping. I bought 2 pair of pants and 2 shirts from Haggar. I love that wrinkle free shit. Also made a stop at some sock store to look for king size socks. It’s not easy finding socks that fit my size 14 feet! I bought two more shirts and a cool brown corduroy jacket ($20) at Aéropostale.

That about sums up my excitement for the weekend.

Steve And Barry's

Steve and Barry’s University Sportswear is my new favorite store! On the way back up from the game, we stopped at Great Lakes Crossing because I had heard about this store while listening to WIOG.

EVERYTHING in the store was $8.98 or less! I bought a Michigan long sleeve T, a Tennessee long sleeve T, Duke T, shirt for work, Michigan hooded sweathshirt, and a small duffle bag. My bill came to about $52! What a bargain!

I also picked up a sweet x-mas gift for Mo at another store, so I didn’t only splurge on myself.

Another Loss

We had our 2nd game for Basketball league tonight. We lost 54-51. I think I had 15 or maybe 17 points. We were down by 10 with under 3 minutes and made a nice little come back. I hit 2 three pointers in the last minute to pull within one and then fouled (they made both free throws), but we didn’t get a good shot off at the end of the game. We only had 6 guys, so I sat out less than a minute for the entire 40 minute game. I’m whooped!!

One of the refs made the absolute worst call I’ve ever seen. We were on offense and Bob (one of our big guys) was down low with the ball and it got knocked loose. As he was going for the ball he got pushed and when he was falling out of bounds he threw the ball off the knees of a guy on their team. The ref that was under the hoop called a foul on them (which was the right call), but the other ref called a Technical Foul on Bob!! Everyone was like…”What the fuck?!?!” The ref says to us…”I saw how you threw it at him.” Now, am I missing something there? Refs can call fouls for the way a person tries to save the ball? What’s next? If a guy has an ugly shot, can he get a Technical? If my shoe isn’t tied, I get a T? I mean, come on. It doens’t even make any sense, does it?

Oh well, it’s just a game and it isn’t going to impact my life.

I had a nice enjoyable day of vacation today. Woke up around 11, screwed around with my computer and the website for awhile and started some laundry. I created a backup of the installation on my computer since I just reinstalled everything the other day. Now if something goes wrong it will be a whole lot faster to get back up and running. I finally made my way into the shower and then went Christmas shopping. I’m just about done with everything for the year, except for one or two more things. I hope everyone likes their gifts because I went all out this year. After shopping I watched the extended DVD of The Two Towers. The added scenes really added a lot to the movie, but holy shit is it a long movie now (roughtly 3 hours and 40 minutes). Worth watching though!

I’m going to the BasketBowl tomorrow at Ford Field. Michigan State and Kentucky are playing the largest basketball game (college, pro, etc.) in history (in terms of attendance). There are supposed to be over 75,000 people there. I’m taking my Dad and brother Isaac to the game as a Christmas gift and mom will be shopping while we are gone. I’ll have a lot of pictures to post when I get back.

Let The Shopping Begin

I finally started my Christmas shopping today. I’ve been dreading going to the stores, but it wasn’t all that bad today. After work I changed and then went to swipe the credit card a few times. I picked up gifts for my mom, sister, and friends. I never really waited in line anywhere and didn’t run into any crazy shoppers attempting to run me over.

This is the first year in history that I’m not all concerned about what I’m getting for Christmas. I guess getting older (24 on the 26th) is part of it, but I’m also paying more attention to the gifts I get for people. So you could say that the “giving” part is playing a bigger role for me. I also have not snooped this year and won’t get to since I won’t be back at my parents until the night of the 23rd of the day of the 24th. Heather (my sister) accused me of snooping through her room, but I swear on all my cool gadgets that I haven’t.

This is a little off topic, but….Today at work I wore black dress pants and realized that for some odd reason I feel a lot more “dressy” in black pants than when I wear khaki, brown, navy, etc. I could be wearing a nice button up shirt with another pair of pants and not feel nearly as dressy as today when I wore a red shirt with a black stripe across the chest. And this shirt is about as close to being a sweatshirt as you can get without being considered one. Mohamad even said, “look at this guy all dressed up,” so I must not be the only one with the feeling about black pants.

Also at work today I was giving another free t-shirt by someone at SVSU. The Dean for the College of Business and Management gave me the first t-shirt from a batch they just had made for all of their faculty and staff. It feels good when people appreciate the work you do for them. My “free t-shirt count” now stands at 3 (not including the ones that Gateway gives us periodically)!

Days Of December

The last month of the year is full of events for me. Here in Michigan, we usually get snow staying on the ground at some point during the month and winter officially begins on the 22nd. Have I ever mentioned that I hate winter? 65-70 degrees outside is the ideal temperature for me. Here in Michigan we are rarely above 30 or 40 during the winter months.

Since I work at a University, December also brings the end of the semester and a little bit of a lag in work as all the students leave campus for the holidays. We also get a nice little paid vacation as the school completely closes down about a week and a half. This year we are closed starting on the 24th and open again on the 5th. So that gives me 8 weekdays off and 2 full weekends to enjoy my freedom…and still get paid for it! πŸ™‚

Does anyone know what my 2 favorite days in December are? The 24th and the 26th. Christmas Eve is a favorite in my book because that is the day my family opens all of our gifts. I LOVE GETTING PRESENTS!! I’ve been known as a little big snooper for my presents over the holidays. I don’t know where these rumors came from though…it’s not my fault if people don’t wrap the gifts right away or hide them in a good place. It’s almost like they are asking for me to find them. The 26th is of course my birthday. I’m going to be a whopping 24 this year–it’s hard to keep track of how old I am these days. And before you even ask…YES, I do get screwed on presents because people like to combine the two days. “Nick, here is your Christmas AND Birthday present.” I hear it all the time. Parents…do not try to conceive a child from mid March up through early April. Your child will be screwed for life! Ok…maybe not, but they will be dissappointed in their present count during Christmas and their birthday.

I generally like to go shopping, but December is an exception. The stores are completely out of hand and people seriously go nuts over Christmas. If people would just learn to settle down and not panic, it would be better for everyone. I’ve heard of punches being through, people being pushed, and F-bombs flying through the are because someone grabbed the last “must have” toy off the shelf. Some of these people should be forced to sit home on their computer and do all of their shopping on eBay. Not only are the stores crazy, but the shopping traffic is worse. Especially here in Saginaw where every store and restaurant that you would want to visit is across the street from the mall. I refuse to go out during the day on weekends (unless I really need to).

Who really waits until Christmas Eve to do their shopping? I can’t believe there are actually people that do this. As if the month isn’t stressful enough with traveling to visit friends/relatives, buying gifts for everyone, and worrying about the weather. Seriously…why would anyone wait until the last minutes to buy a gift for the most anticipated gift giving day of the year? I just don’t understand. If someone out there does this, please leave a comment and explain why.

This is the first year (since I’ve been old enough to ask for things) that I haven’t made a list. I guess I’m getting older.

Decmeber also brings New Year’s Eve and one of the greatest party nights of the year. Everyone gets trashed and has a blast. It is always a night to look forward to.

I hope everyone has a great month!
