World Series of Poker (WSOP) Live Updates

For this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) it seems the Rio has made some changes in regards to live updates by the media. Last year I was continually refreshing Pauly’s Poker Blog to get the most up-to-date information about the WSOP, not to mention his top 5 lists. Today I’m following the events of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event and the best live updates I can find are from CardPlayer. If anyone knows of a site with more current updating, please leave a comment.

The Big Secret

Over the past couple of months I had mentioned a big secret I was planning to let out of the bag. Well, the announcement is nearly a month after the deal was completed, but it’s out. I sold pokerchiptricks.com. The whole deal was really stressing me out towards the end and I can now say that I hate dealing with lawyers. Head over to the poker blog for more details.

Poker Chip Tricks Site Has Been Sold

Any regular visitors to Poker Chip Tricks probably noticed some changes that started over a month ago. Recently those changes became even more apparent as all of the Google ads were completely removed and other cosmetic changes were made.

Why all of the changes?

I’ve sold the site and no longer own any of the domains or content. I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse and felt the time was right to get rid of the site. I’ve agreed not to come out and say exactly who bought it, but I’m very confident they’ll do a great job with the site. In the end, I think both parties received a great deal. The whole deal ended up taking nearly 4 months, which was about 2 months too long due to the lawyers battling back and forth. I learned a lot during the process and will be ready if I’m lucky enough to sell another site in the future.

I want to thank everyone who linked to pokerchiptricks.com at one time or another, which helped me get the site all the way to #1 on Google when searching for “poker chip tricks” and in the top 10 for “poker chips.”

If you’d like to help with my next site, you can link to http://docardtricks.com/ with the words “Card Tricks” as the link text. I haven’t done much with the site since it was launched, but I have a few new tricks planned which I hope to put out there soon.

Heads Up SNGs

I still haven’t been playing much poker, but wanted to write something, so here you have it.

Once a week or so I get the urge to play for a quick hour or so and my game of choice has been heads up sit ‘n go tournaments on Noble Poker. I like the blind levels and the different buyins they have available. Rarely does it ever take more than a minute or two to get a game started no matter which buyin I choose to play. For the most part I’ve been playing from $20-$50 games and winning more than I lose. Last week I even took a shot playing an Omaha HU SNG and won! I’ll be the first to admit I had no clue what I was doing. Either I made the right moves at the right times or got extremely lucky. If I was a gambler I’d bet on door #2.

The reason I like the HU SNG so much is because they’re fast, yet still provide a nice challenge. You have to constantly monitor your opponents betting patterns and it’s not too tough to figure them out after a few hands. One of the toughest calls I have is calling a big raise on the river with a medium pair even though I think my opponent is simply following through with a bluff. I always like to have the chip lead and end up thinking I could find a better spot to take advantage.

Even though I’m rarely playing (but enjoying everything else about life a LOT more) I learn each time I play these. I try to take the upper hand by being aggressive right from the start, but I find the most challenge when I run into the same type of player. Just typing this makes me want to run home and jump in a game right now. I still enjoy playing poker, but have come to realize I’ll never be a great player in any of the games, so it’s a lot smarter to spend my time doing other things.
