10 Years of iPhone
Today is the iPhone’s 10th birthday!
I waited in line at the local AT&T store on launch day, but they only received 5 or 10 phones, so I had to place an order. I had been in the audience at MacWorld that January and got to witness Steve Jobs reveal the iPhone to the world.

I can still picture him repeating “a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough internet communications device” as if it were yesterday. The device and watching Jobs on stage were magical in many ways. I got chills from watching the video again.
A Wallet Update
It’s barely 10 days since my post about wallets, but I already have an update. Matt sent a Q Card Case my way. I’ve always been very anti-case for my iPhone. I don’t like the extra bulk.
I’ve never gone wrong with a product recommended by Matt, so I was willing to try it. I needed to minimize even more to make it work. No more backup credit card. If something happens to my everyday card I can use my debit. My flex spending benefits card also got left out, because I only use it every 4-5 weeks. I can’t get myself to completely part with cash, even though I rarely use it, but I cut down to a couple of twenties.
The first time I put the case on and headed out of the house I was pleasantly surprised how free I felt. Without a wallet, there was one less thing to grab and keep track of. When I arrived home I’d slip the case off because I definitely wasn’t carrying it around the house. I continued using the case each time I left the house.
I didn’t expect this outcome, but it’s here to stay. Minimizing down to a credit card, driver’s license, and debit card feels right.
Home Screen – iPhone 7 Plus
A lot has changed since I posted an iPhone 4 home screen in 2010. Looks like I was early to the emoji game. I have a lot more apps now, but keep my #OneScreen membership alive. Many of those app groups have several pages inside.
Shattered
I’ve had an iPhone since the original was released in 2007 and have got the new model every year except for 2 or 3 I think. Dropped them so many times I can’t count. A couple of months ago I dropped the iPhone 6s perfectly on the corner, resulting in a small corner crack and a crack across the bottom of the screen. Couldn’t even notice it depending on the angle I was holding it. Figured I’d wait as long as I could before replacing the screen.
Today the phone fell out of my hoodie pocket and landed on the face in my garage. Completely shattered it! I guess it’s time to get it fixed. I’ve been extremely lucky over the years.

Initial iPhone 6 Thoughts
Here are some quick notes after playing with the iPhone 6 for 4-5 hours today. I’ve been using an iPhone 5 for about 22 months.
- It’s big. I can’t imagine having the 6 Plus.
- The feel of it in your hand is magical.
- How did I ever get by without TouchID?
- 240 fps slo-mo is going to be fun.
- Saving a slo-mo video is a terrible experience if you want to be able to do something else with one.
- The screen is beautiful.
- My old iPhone 5 felt incredibly small after just 30 minutes setting up the 6.
- It’s going to take some getting used to the power button being on the side.
- Going back to a design with rounded corners feels so much better to hold.
- Not sure I’ll ever use the home button double tap shortcut to get closer access to the top of the screen.
- Fewer typing mistakes SwiftKey works even better with the bigger screen.
- Noticeably faster than the 5.
Do you have a new iPhone? What do you think?
Send To Phone
When browsing on my laptop and I come across an iOS app, I’m usually directed into iTunes, which isn’t very helpful. Sending me a text with a link is helpful, like Dark Sky does.

Apple’s First Shot at Thin
I remember when I got the first gen iPod Nano. It was incredible for how small it was. Now the iPhone 4 and 4S are just a bit bigger. Due to some kind of battery defect, Apple sent me an email and is going to replace this old iPod, which I haven’t used in years. […]
