I have a new cousin! My Uncle Mike (my dad’s youngest brother) and Aunt Ann had a baby boy Sunday, December 21st. They named him Benjamin John.
After all was said and done he weighed 9 pounds 10 ounces, stretched 23 inches, and had a head full of dark hair.
Someone get a basketball in his hands!
This year is like no other for me in terms of the holiday season. Usually I’m more concerned about me and what I’ll be getting for gifts instead of concentrating on everyone else. This year has been just the opposite. One thing you may have noticed is the title of this post. I didn’t call it Christmas Spirit because I’m more aware that some people don’t celebrate Christmas because of their religions, so instead they get to enjoy some time off work for the holidays.
I didn’t even really realize it until today, but my birthday is only a few days away! That should tell you something right there. I’ll be turning 24 so maybe this is all because I’m getting old…but I don’t think that is it. I bought presents for a lot of people this year, not just for my family. And the people I normally get presents for…they are going to enjoy what they get this year, I’m making sure of it. I can’t post what I bought yet since these people obviously haven’t received their gifts yet. Don’t want to give it away. 😉
Well, I guess I can name a few things. I got Mohamad a chrome Superman license plate cover. Hater and Casey each got 2 DVDs. For Hater I bought 2 SNL “Best Of” movies and for Casey I bought the movie Goonies and a Michael Jackson video compilation.
I haven’t been thinking at all about what I might be unwrapping on Christmas Eve. Instead, I can’t wait to see the looks on the faces of my family when they open what I got them! I’m pretty excited. 🙂
I’ll be heading up north to RC tomorrow so I have a ton of stuff to get done tonight. I’ve already been pretty productive since leaving work. So far I’ve:
- Bought a few more presents.
- Picked up packages from the leasing office.
- Wrapped presents.
- Paid my bills.
- Did the dishes.
- Uploaded new photos to the photoblog.
- Packed up the laptop and poker chips.
- Added acronym tags to my entire website.
- Filled out a rebate form.
- Thought about how much I have yet to do!
I still have a lot to get done tonight so I better move onto the next task, which will be making dinner, cuz I’m starving!
Yesterday the Detroit Lions set the NFL record for consecutive road losses with their 24th in a row. I looked at the box score and they had a total of 106 yards on offense! These guys are supposed to be professions? The best in the world at playing football? I’ll continue to be a fan, but holy shit do they suck! I heard this joke on the radio this morning:
What do the Lions and an opposum have in common?
They both play dead at home and get killed on the road.
Kind of corny, but kind of funny too. At least we have the Red Wings to root for!
My entire website is now valid XHTML 1.1!
I just finished going through all of the code for the photoblog. It took quite awhile because there are sooo many files with the Gallery software and they are really spread out. I downloaded a program called NoteTab Pro to help me with some of the code replacement and it worked great. I’m sure I wasn’t using the program to it’s full potential, but it sure was helpful.
In the process of getting my photoblog to validate, I messed up a few portions of the design (nothing big), so now I have to fix those.
I’ve been blogging for a month now!
I spent the majority of the day modifying my pages to use valid XHTML 1.1 and to use tableless layouts. Everything is completed except for the photolog pages. I removed the tables from my design, but the Gallery software uses tables for a lot of the positioning, which I am not going to change. I will however be attempting to modify the code to be valid XHTML 1.1 like all of my other pages.
By getting rid of all the tables and using standardized code, it helps to speed up my site because the file sizes are smaller without all the unnecessary code and markup. CSS is very powerful for adding style to your pages and I’ll be using more and more of it now that I know what it can do. One of the cool things that I did when making all of these changes was add a little “spark” to my main menu. The old menu didn’t change colors or anything…it was pretty boring.
If you find any of my pages are not using valid XHTML 1.1, yell at me!
Last night at the bar (after the work holiday party) we had a little discussion about tastes in music. I admitted there are some country music songs that I like and will listen to. Bill then argued that because of this, I like country music. I do not like country music! If a person eats tacos, does that mean they like Mexican food? I don’t think it is justification.
In my opinion, to say that you like a particular type of music, you have to enjoy the majority of it. As an example…I won’t listen to a country music station on the radio because I can’t stand listening to the majority of the songs. On the other hand, I can sit and listen to a hip hop station and enjoy almost everything that they play.
Tomorrow has been labeled “Eat & Get Fat Day” at work. We are all bringing some type of food to snack on throughout the day. Mom was down last weekend and brought me big back of chex-mix so that is what I’m taking. I can’t bake or make anything great, so I’m taking the easy way out. We have about 14 people bringing food in, so it should make for an interesting day of work. At least I won’t be hungry!
Tomorrow night we have our Holiday Party for work. We’re going somewhere in Frankenmuth to eat, bowling afterwards, and then to the bar. It should be an event filled evening.
I just got back from seeing “The Return of the King” a bit ago. It was a great movie, but a bit too long. It was about 3 and a half hours long, which should have been shortened. For the last half hour they kept fading away in scenes and everyone kept getting up, but then another scene started. They could have easily made this movie about 3 hours long like the first two and people would have been happy.
That being said…I really enjoyed the movie and I think I need to read the series of books again sometime soon. I really liked the adaption from the books to the movie. They changed a few things that I noticed in the story, but overall the three movies truly are a masterpiece! If you haven’t seen any of them…schedule a day where you have nothing else and watch the first two (extended edition) DVDs and then go see the 3rd movie. I’m not going to give any details on the movie because I don’t want to give it away for anyone who hasn’t seen them.
A few things I have to mention…Today I realized two things about the movie theater:
1) For some reason people think they can show up to a highly anticipated movie a few minutes before it starts and then actually find a good seat. Are they for real? We showed up a half hour early and still didn’t get the greatest seats.
2) How come during a movie you can notice someone walking out to get food or for the bathroom or you notice them coming back in, but you never see them go out and come back in? I guess I really pay attention to a movie. Does anyone else do this?
