Halo: The Fall Of Reach

The Fall of Reach (Halo)If you are a fan of the XBOX game Halo then this book is for you.

It is the first in a series of books based on the video game. I really liked how it fills in all of the gaps in the story. The Fall of Reach explains what happened up until the opening sequences of the game. You learn where Master Chief came from and how he became such a kickass soldier.

I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who can’t appreciate the game, but if was a good read for me. The character developments and plot where more than I could ask for in a book about a video game. It really adds to the whole Halo experience. Now I’m on to the next book, The Flood, which is supposed to tell the story that takes place during the game. So far it’s holding true to form.

I’ll give this book a B+, but only that low because it didn’t knock me off my feet.

Failed

I failed my Micosoft certification test today. I took exam 070-305, which is for Visual Basic.NET with ASP.Net. The class I took through HOTT was a great class, but I’m not buying into their guarantee:

HOTT guarantees that students will pass related certification exams, or HOTT will pay for a retake.

Well over half of the questions on the test were not on things covered in the class. I think I did a pretty good job of making educated guesses, but still came up well short of passing. I needed a score of 700 to pass and only achieved a 602 604. Ouch! I don’t think I’ve ever failed a test before today.

Update: After talking with some people at HOTT, they actually recommend taking the Introduction and Advanced classes for VB.NET before taking the test. So in reality I did pretty good then, with the limited knowledge that I had.

Heat Wave

I’m not ready for the hot weather. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday it was over 70 each day and today it passed 80. Today was especially bad because it was extremely muggy to go along with the heat. What’s even worse is that I didn’t get a chance to get any golfing done in the nice weather because I’ve been so busy getting the new place ready to move in and studying for my Microsoft certification test.

I’m ready for 65 degree weather…all day…every day!

A Night Of Poker

Played poker tonight with the guys over in Bay City. We played Hold’em, Omaha, Crazy Pineapple, and a few other random games. I ended up losing $10 or $15, but I had fun and that is what counts. Right? 😉 I went out by winning the last game we played, so that made it all the better. I just couldn’t get into any type of rhythm with the cards, so that part of it kinda sucked.

Jeff and I were supposed to party, but when we heard no one was at the party by 11:30, we decided to keep playing cards. We made the right choice because now we won’t wake up with hangovers. 🙂

Cabin Fever

Cabin Fever - Special EditionHorrible. Just horrible! What a waste of an hour and a half. I would never watch this movie again.

The best (and only good) part of the movie was getting to see Cerina Vincent’s tits a few times. She is one fine looking woman! The acting was decent at best, but any level of acting couldn’t make up for the horrible story. It’s so unbelieveable that I don’t even know what to say.

My advice…if you are in the video store and feel the urge to rent this movie, run the opposite way!

Cabin Fever gets a big fat F.

Cold Creek Manor

Cold Creek ManorPretty good movie. From what I remember in previews I thought this was supposed to be a freaky-scary movie. There were some parts where I gripped my seat a bit, but it doesn’t totally fit into that genre of movies.

Dennis Quaid, Sharon Stone, Juliette Lewis, and Stephen Dorff all did wonderful jobs as the main characters. A family from New York buys a house out in the country, which was once a beautiful estate. As they renovate the place, the previous owner stops in for a visit and the thrill begins. One part to note in the movie (which happens twice I believe), is that Dorff’s character’s father calls his mother a whore, even to his face.

The acting, plot, and suspense all keep the movie rolling along. I give it a B.

Another Day

It was a good day, as far as the new place goes. I slept in a little bit and then screwed around on the computer for an hour or so before getting started on my tasks for the day. I took down all of my posters, and looked for things I could do without. I managed to put a few boxes worth of stuff together, along with jackets, and some odds and ends. Enough for a load anyways. Took a bunch of shit out to the trash too…I think the whole damn dumpster is my stuff.

Jeremy told me to:

  1. Grab the nearest book.
  2. Open the book to page 23.
  3. Find the fifth sentence.
  4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these 4 instructions.

She zoomed in on the subject to get a better look.

Starting The Move

I started moving stuff today to my new place. It’s a pain in the ass, but exciting at the same time. The futon is all put together and was a great purchase. I also spent some more money today on cleaning stuff, a new vacuum, a Swiffer, and various other things I’ll need at the new place. I did a pretty good job of writing everything down today as I thought of them.

Tomorrow I’m going to clean the whole place down because there are some pretty dusty places here and there. I desperately need to get a haircut tomorrow too!

I’ve posted pictures of the new duplex before anything was moved in.
