The Sasquatch Zipline

In the weeks leading up to our yearly Automattic Grand Meetup, people organize all kinds of activities. I’ve always wanted to do a zipline tour and I was lucky to get my name on the list early enough to secure a spot. There were 2 different tours available and I picked one out of the blue because of the date and time.

I didn’t even realize what I was signing up for! While the total tour time is 1.5 hours, the estimated time on the zipline is 90-100 seconds. The single line spans over 2 km, reaching speeds of 100+ km/h!

Talk about a rush! It was much harder to spin around than I expected, so once I got myself situated I spent a lot of time with my hands on the handles.

I bought this book when it came out in 2013 and until a few months ago it had been untouched on my Kindle. It’s hard to believe it was over 4 years ago and Tiger’s crash (pun intended) was even earlier. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read it.

I’d been a Tiger Woods fan since his historic 1997 win at the Masters. In fact, I almost never watch a golf tournament unless he is playing. The excitement just isn’t there for me unless he’s in contention, which was pretty much every tournament he played for over a decade.

Through the book, Hank Haney gives us a lot of insight into Tiger’s personality. Many things make a lot more sense. At the same time, the book is one man’s view of Tiger. No matter what I read, at the end of the day, I’m still a fan of Tiger Woods the golfer.

If you’re a golf fan or even just a sports fan, I recommend reading this book. You’ll get a rare look into what it’s like working with one of the greatest professional athletes in history.

Heading off to Whistler, Canada for the 2017 Automattic Grand Meetup. I usually pack right before I fly and always fly out of MBS. I can leave my house an hour before the flight and still have plenty of time.

Fresh out of the shower. Time to get dressed and pack.

All packed, though I did end up adding one more hoody. One week in a carry-on.

8:43 am

Remember when I said I like to leave an hour before my flight? Departure time is 9:43 am.

Right. 

On.

“The Defenders” Was Pretty Good

Last night I finished watching Marvel’s The Defenders on Netflix. It was a good 8 episodes bringing together the characters from the 4 individual shows. If I had to rank them I’d probably put Dare Devil and Jessica Jones at the top, then Defenders or Luke Cage, and Iron Fist at the bottom.

I’m looking forward to The Punisher series. As far as other shows on Netflix, I’ll watch Narcos season 3 next and then maybe The Keepers.
