BIG Purchase!

Sony Grand WegaI just made the purchase of my life! I bought a 50″ Grand WEGA LCD rear projection TV (KF-50WE610).

Joel over at ABC Warehouse hooked me up with some sweet deals. I got the TV for $2870, which is $430 cheaper than the price at Circuit City, Best Buy, and Sony. I also bought the 5 year extended warranty on it, because on such a big purchase it’s a must. The bulbs in this type of TV usually go out after 4 or 5 years and some people have experienced more frequent bulb changes. Each new bulb is $200+ and that doesn’t even count the cost to have it installed. If I have the bulb replaced once during the warranty period, I’ve paid for the service plan. If after 5 years I haven’t used the extended warranty at all, I can get half of it back. I also purchased the stand that you see in the picture, which is made specifically for this TV. I got $50 off of the stand and Joel also threw in an extra $50 gift card. I was approved for Sony credit so I have no payments and no interest until June of 2005. This deal is so good you can’t beat it with a stick!

The Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci CodeI finished reading “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown last night. It is easily the best book I’ve ever read. I’m not a big reader, so that might not be saying much for me, but it has also been a hot item on best seller lists.

It only took me 4 days to read the book (compared to the one day that elapses from start to finish of the story), which is an amazing feat for me. I’ve never read a book so quickly in my life. Hell, I think I’ve taken longer than that to read some of the email messages I receive.

The chapters are really short (the longest was like 10 pages) in his book, which was a major factor in the time it took me to read it. Since I knew the next chapter would be short I was constantly telling myself that I would just read one more chapter and then get to bed. Going to bed would of course take many more chapters than just that one more. Another thing the short chapters helped to do was to keep 3 or 4 different events/places/situations going without getting lost. It was very easy to remember how everything was happening at once.

I couldn’t put the book down since I picked it up. The plot was amazing, especially when you throw in all of the history about Christianity, the bible, Leonardo Da Vinci, and the holy grail. I’ve always hated reading history books because they are so dull and boring, but learning history in a story like Dan Brown can write is like nothing I’ve ever read before. I plan to check out some of his other books or books written by other authors that are in a similar fashion.

I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It really was that good. Definitely an A++ in my opinion.

Home Sweet Home

DuplexI found a place to live! 2317 Congress. For those of you familiar with Saginaw, go south on Bay Road past State Street, take a left on Congress and it’s about two blocks down on the right hand side.

It’s a nice little two bedroom with a carport. The living room and one of the bedrooms have a nice hardwood floor, the other bedroom and hallway have nice carpetting, and the kitchen and dining room don’t have the greatest floor but it’s fine for me. It’s freshly painted, has washer and dryer hookups, and a nice little bathroom. It’ll be the perfect little place for me. For the time being I’ll just use the second bedroom for my computer shit and storage, but will most likely get someone to move in with me in a few months. I’m excited!

After looking for only a week, I was sick of searching through the paper, calling people up, and going to see places. Not my idea of a fun time. The landlord is really nice and is going to hold it for me for three weeks, so that works out well. I’ll only have to pay rent on two places for 2 weeks and then I’ll be out of here and into the new place.

March MADNESS

It has been one hell of an NCAA Tournament so far, and it’s only the first weekend! We’ve seen two number 1 seeds fall, Stanford (ESPN’s pick to win it all) and Kentucky (Dick Vitale’s pick to win it all). Duke (my pick) is one of the few teams to dominate both of their games.

I don’t remember ever seeing so many close games in the first two rounds. Every other game is down to the last few seconds with either team having a chance to come out on top. It’s great to watch, but I need the next few days to recover from all of the emotions!

My bracket is all fucked up. I’ve lost 3 of my Elite 8 teams already and I had Kentucky playing in the final game. I don’t think I’ll be winning any money this year. All that matters right now is that Duke is still playing and playing the best out of any team that I’ve watched. I also realize that they could easily fall like other teams have done. I’m looking forward to the next round of action to begin on Thursday.

Political Campaign Goals

Over the years I’ve seen far too many presidential campaign commercials where the goal is to discredit the other candidate in the race. Maybe I just don’t get it. I would think that the main goal of a campaign should be to inform people about your own stances, thoughts, and goals.

In a job interview the average person doesn’t talk about what’s wrong with the other candidates for the job, we discuss our own strengths with the company and attempt to sell ourselves. If we had dirt on the other people being interviewed and brought those things up during the interview, we would quickly be overlooked as a serious option for the job.

Why is it different for the men (and someday women) that are essentially selling their views on how to run the United States government? Is their own vision not enough to win the majority of the votes? Why do we even consider someone for President who doesn’t have enough confidence in themselves?

I see it as a weak tactic to discredit someone else with the goal of making your own campaign stronger.

Buy And Sell

During the break in TV coverage of the NCAA tournament I ran downtown to take care of a few things. I traded in 2 XBOX games, Rainbox Six 3 and SSX 3. I put the trade-in value towards a reservation for Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, which is due out on the 24th. It’s going to be a sweet game. Splinter Cell was unlike any other game ever created and from what I’ve seen, Ubisoft has made some great improvements to the graphics and has even added multi-player play for XBOX Live, which again, is unlike anything out.

I then stopped by Barnes & Noble to pick up a few books. I’ve heard and read good things about The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown so I decided I’d give it a read. Maybe it will give me some new insight into my very confused views on religion. I also picked up Halo: The Flood, Halo: First Strike, and ordered Halo: The Fall Of The Reach. I’ve read a lot of things about the Halo books online and since I loved the video game I figure I can’t go wrong reading them.
