I think you just need to choose sidebar as default layout in theme options. No, it’s not intuitive. LikeLike Reply

Yeah, no option for that in Twenty Eleven. As Nick did, the footer widget is what carries through. I’m not disliking that, myself, because it truly gives focus on the content, which I assume must have been the intent. LikeLike Reply

I decided to use the footer widgets and switch to the one column layout. Kind of a bummer and surprising that single post views don’t allow a sidebar. LikeLike Reply
