Review: Meet the Fockers

Meet The Fockers (Widescreen Edition)Meet the Parents was a great movie, but Meet the Fockers was disappointing. The movie had it’s moments, but it wasn’t nearly as good as the first film.

Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, and Barbra Streisand all did an excellent job with their parts in the movie. My issue was with the writing of the script. The jokes just weren’t very funny. I don’t care how good the acting is…it can’t make up for a poor script. I watched the extended version on the DVD and that made it even worse. Instead of actually making smooth transitions to an added scene they alerted you with an icon on the screen and then completely jumped to the new scene. It was horrible. I’ve watched a lot of extended edition DVDs and none were ever done bad.

Meet the Fockers isn’t so bad that you shouldn’t watch it, but don’t expect anything up to the standard set by Meet the Parents. I give the movie a C-.

  1. I can’t believe you didn’t like Meet the Fockers! I thought it was a great movie, just as good as (or at least close to) Meet the Parents. I do have to agree with you that the extended version is real jumpy though.

  2. I saw this movie in the theater and again when I bought it a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was awesome…it doesnt surprise me one bit that the two of us dont agree on this….I feel this movie was as good, if not better than the first one. I liked how they added all the new humor with LJ and still had the tension between Greg and Big Jack…then you add all the new tension with the new family. I thought it was a great movie and I would recommend it to everyone! A-

One more thing….dont watch the extended version to see what the movie is like. Watch the regular one and I feel you would have better appreciated it!

  3. I knew when I wrote this review that a lot of people would disagree with me and that’s absolutely fine. We’re all entitled to our own opinions.

But I’ve always watched extended editions on any DVD that I watch and there hasn’t been one (until Meet the Fockers) that did it wrong. :-/

  4. Ben Stiller in any movie automatically lowers both my expectations and desire to watch. My nine year-old saw this movie and loved it. I won’t be renting it any time soon, I can tell you that!
