Today I folded KK pre-flop without anyone raising before me. Doh! I was playing 4 tables at the time and hit the fold button on the wrong table. When the flop came JJK I felt sick because one other player was betting his Jack. I’ve been 4-tabling for a few months and haven’t made any mistakes like that previously. At the time I was arguing with a player at one of the other tables so I wasn’t fully paying attention when I should have. Maybe I should just turn chat off.
I’ve been playing poker at MultiPoker over the last week, but just haven’t felt motivated to write about it. For my deposit bonus I need to clear a whopping 2250 raked hands and am about halfway through. I played for about an hour on Monday and the same on Tuesday, taking over 30 big bets each time. My play was solid and the cards were running good. On Wednesday I had to miss the WPBT event with my brother in town. On Thursday I started out a session by doubling up ($0.50/1 limit) at one table early. I hit a short period of tilt tough and just couldn’t recover. I ended up down about 26 BB for the night after a few hours.
Last night I made a deposit to UB to take advantage of the reload bonus (which doesn’t expire), so I decided to play a couple of SNGs. I signed up for a $10 and a $5. In the $20 I doubled up in the first few hands when AQ came over the top of my QQ on a ragged flop. It was an easy call. I knocked another player out a few rounds later when I flopped a full house and he had the trips. I was the chip leader for most of the SNG and eventually it was down to two. I made a mistake by not going all-in when I hit a straight. The other player had a lower straight, but I was Chicken Little because of a 3-flush on the board. I should have won right there. Shortly after I was looking at a raise when I was dealt KK. I min-raised back and he went all-in with
One thing I realized is that it’s hard to play the final stages of more than one SNG at a time. When play nears the money places, hands go quickly. Jumping back and forth between tables just doesn’t work well. As I’ve said in recent posts, I’m learning more and more about no-limit tournament strategy, but still have miles to go before I’d consider myself a good player. After I clear some bonuses I’m going to start playing a lot more tournaments.
Earlier today I played some more $0.50/1 at MultiPoker. I was down for the majority of the session, but made a nice run and decided to call it quits after 3 hours. I finished up about 18 BB. During the middle of the session I had a nice hand on all 4 tables, but didn’t win a single one. I let it get to my head and tilted off some bets.
Once I clear the MultiPoker bonus, my bankroll should be above the $1000 mark I wanted to hit before moving back up to $1/2. I may actually wait though because on the 9th I’m taking my brother to the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant for some live poker. He’s turning 18 and can’t wait to throw around some cash. I haven’t played their either, so it should be fun. Pretty sad actually, since it’s only about 40 miles away.
OK. I understand totally about playing the four tables at a time when the idea is to play a lot of raked hands in a tight-agressive style to minimize damage and make the bonuses. I’m fine with that.
But, doesn’t playing multiple tables really create bad habits that won’t help at all in the long-term development of a person as a tournament poker player?
Now maybe, it doesn’t really matter, since ALL of on-line doesn’t really help.
I’m just wondering. And hey, if you’re making as much off the bonuses as all that, then an occasional mis-fold isn’t the end of the world.
Good luck.
Charlie
P.S. Can anybody point me to some GOOD articles about the subtleties of playing A-Q and A-Qs. I’ve been having a lot of bad luck with these hands in some free live tournaments I’ve been playing. Just e-mail them to CLL2001@Gmail.com. Thanks in advance.

Well, I don’t play limit poker to improve my no-limit tournament game, that’s for sure.
I play limit to build my bankroll, earn bonuses, and learn the game. I can pretty much play low limit on auto-pilot.
