Bend over and grab my ankles

This is just a sample of how the past two nights of online poker have gone…

$1/$2 Hold’em (6 max)

SB ( $73 )

BB ( $62 )

UTG ( $14.74 )

MP ( $70.5 )

CO ( $49.5 )

MtDewVirus ( $9.65 )

I only had $9.65 at a 1/2 table because of all the beats I had taken.

Dealt to MtDewVirus: TsJd

I decide to limp in on the button and see what the flop brings.

UTG calls, MP folds, CO calls, MtDewVirus calls, SB calls, BB checks.

** Dealing Flop ** 7d8h9c

After I see the flop I’m jumping for joy. It couldn’t be any better. I flop the nut straight and the board is a nice rainbow of suits. As the SB bets and everyone calls, I decide to raise and not slowplay the hand. I’m a bit suprised when the SB raises behind me and everyone calls the two more bets, so I cap it off and everyone calls that too. I’m thinking I might be up against 2 pair or trips, but I’m the clear favorite to win the hand against either one.

SB bets, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls, MtDewVirus raises, SB raises, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls, MtDewVirus raises, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls.

** Dealing Turn ** Ad

No harm. As long as the board doesn’t pair I’m happy.

SB bets, BB folds UTG calls, CO calls, MtDewVirus raises, SB raises, UTG calls, CO calls.

I put in the last of my money, but wish I had more. I’d raise this hand all day and all week long.

** Dealing River ** 6d

The board didn’t pair. That’s good. If anyone has the flush, they better have the 8d and 9d right?

SB checks, UTG checks, CO bets, SB calls, UTG calls.

CO shows Qd5d a flush, ace high.

MtDewVirus doesn’t show TsJd a straight, seven to jack.

SB doesn’t show 6c5s a straight, five to nine.

UTG doesn’t show JhAh a pair of aces.

CO wins $10.05 from side pot #1 with a flush, ace high.

CO wins $42.6 from the main pot with a flush, ace high.

I would have bet the farm that I had the best hand there. What was CO calling capped betting hoping for? His gutshot draw to the low end of the straight, which would have put 4 in a row to a straight out there? No wait…he was hoping for the runner runner flush! Duh! How could I be so dumb. Needless to say, the player has been added to my Party Poker fish list. UTG wasn’t much better with his gutshot draw, but at least he was drawing to the high end. SB also flopped the straight, but was drawing dead to my nut straight.

Needless to say, the $400 I won two days ago, has all been given back. I have the best hand pre-flop and on the flop and am getting beat by miracles on the turn and river. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been beaten in the past two days by people with 4 outs or less or by two running cards. Or…I’ll pick off someone’s bluff with my middle pair and they’ll hit their ace on the river to crush me. When I make a read and lay down a draw, it comes through. Playing without the help of Poker Tracker by my side is severely hindering my play. I need to get back home where I’ve been crushing these games.

I think I also need to refresh on some of SSH. I guess it was only a matter of time before the cards went cold. But, it’s not even that he cards are going cold. I’m getting good hands. I really am. I’m just getting outdrawn…A LOT! Maybe I thought I was invincible after the big winning day. It’s quite possible that I’m calling down and betting with too many hands.

So, yes, I’m taking a few days off from the poker tables. I brought $300 up with me to play at the casino, but they didn’t have their room open tonight, so that’s a good thing. I think I would have blown that too! Maybe I’ll even take the whole week off. I need to import the hand histories from the past few days into PT and review my play.

The recap of the home tourney should be on its way to the site tomorrow since I won’t be playing any poker.

  1. Well, the part I really miss is being able to see real-time stats on how many hands a player is playing, how often they are raising pre-flop, how often they are going to showdown. That’s what I really miss! But yes, I miss all of the other things to. πŸ˜‰

  2. I was just kidding anyway, I was playing a .50/1 table today against a guy that was catching everything I had AA and Raised PF he raised me back then I capped it.

I was using Poker Tracker and here was his stats. I still can’t belive them.

    51 hands

    VP$IP 90.20% (46 out of 50)

    Saw Flop 96% (49 out of 51)

Won when saw flop 42.86% (21 out 49)

    Amount won $89.50

Went to SD 55.10% (27 out of 49)

Won at SD 55.56% (15 out of 27)

This guy was an aggressive ass that I knew was playing with nothing so I would try to raise him out, or call him down, but you can see nothing wa goint to work against this guy. I was hoping the cards would turn around but they never did.

I feel like when guys like this can make over 3 times their buyin in on session playing like that, why am i grinding it out making 2 BB per hr.

Sory about the rant but I wanted to kill this guy. I wasen’t even on tilt. I went back to Phil Helmuths top ten in his book Play poker like a pro. and he still was catching.

  3. I have a theory that some of these online poker sites do a thing where their “random” cards occaisionally REWARD people going for runner runnner gutshots and the like. It keeps the fish interested and excited, keeps them thinking it will happen all the time. it wouldn’t be that tough to do, programatically.

But maybe I just need to put on my tinfoil and not think about conspiracies. πŸ˜‰

  4. I’m 99.9% sure they don’t do this. I recently saw quite a few runner-runners and gutshots in a home tourney over the holidays. It does happen. Sometimes it just happens more often…this is how odds work. πŸ˜‰

  5. There’s too much money to be made running a legitimate online poker room to run a crooked one, in my opinion. When people say “that’s PartyPoker for ya,” they are wrong … that’s POKER! the strange situations simply seem exascerbated because you get to see so many more hands in online play.

Pacific Poker just sold for $3 billion (with a B). Why would you risk that sort of profit just to make a smidgen more?

  6. Trust me, I don’t REALLY think it’s rigged. I just think it would be easy to do if they wanted to, which is what makes it easy to think it is during a cold streak. (hence my “tinfoil hat” comment)

  7. Stick to dominating hands and playing winning poker.

Most times I see people not being aggressive enough and waiting for hands.

Take the guys down if they get lucky so be it.

Win more hands than you lose playing this way and you’ll find if your going hard you’ll come out smiling with the averages.
