I’m having a hard time deciding which announcer gets on my nerves more.
Tim McCarver
- “I got my ‘splitter’ and my ‘plate’ mixed up and kind of called it a ‘splate.’ It’s a new word I made up.”
- “A walk is as good as a home run.”
- “If the double play is a pitcher’s best friend, what is a fielder’s choice? An acquaintance?”
- “National league pitchers pitch Edmonds up and in. That is his strength and his weakness.”
- “If football is a game of inches then baseball is a game of inch.”
- “Yankee pitchers have had great success this year against Cabrera when they get him out.”
John Madden
- “The fewer rules a coach has, the fewer rules there are for players to break.”
- “It’s kind of hard to keep your head from being lopsided if you have half of the field in your helmet.”
- “You can only make one play at a time.”
- “Winning is a great deoderant.”
- “First down is a good down.”
- “Of course, if he had had control of the ball when he hit the ground, then it would have been a complete pass.”
John Madden wins in a Googlefight between the two.
Great thread. This is a question that will be debated for ages. I’d like to see how Paul Maguire fits into the mix. He’s a doozie!
