Voting

I don’t vote because I don’t pay attention to the issues. Simple as that. I’m not going to waste my vote on something I don’t know about. It’s not that I don’t care about the elections, laws, and all of the political hoopla; I just don’t feel like taking the time to read about the candidates, watch the debates, or get involved. I have the right to vote, but I choose not to take advantage of it.

Do you vote? Why or why not?

  1. For a smart guy, that’s a pretty pathetic statement. Maybe when you have kids in a fucked up education system or one of your friends gets sent to Iraq or your grandparents can’t afford their pills you’ll realize the error of your ways.

  2. When something comes up that I feel strongly enough about, I’m sure I’ll vote then. Right now though, there isn’t anything I need a vote to voice my opinion about. I knew I’d catch some flack for this post. 😐

  3. It truly is a right and a priviledge. Unfortunately, living in Vermont, my vote really doesn’t matter. We are a left-lleaning state and whether I vote or not, Kerry will win our measley three electoral votes. I just wish that our system really was one person, one vote.

  4. I vote for a couple of reasons:

    1. IMO, if you don’t vote; then you’ve no right to complain about the job our government does.

    2. The government is supposed to represent the people and how can it represent me if I don’t make even a minimal effort to say what I believe in (e.g. cast my vote)?

Also, I don’t think it’s wise to wait until there’s an issue you care about to vote; I mean what will you do when that issue comes up between elections and some crap law (e.g. Patriot Act) gets passed? Wouldn’t it have been better to have never voted the idiots who passed said law into office in the first place vs. trying to get them to reverse it now that it’s on the books?

  5. At the same time, how do you know that the candidate you vote for is going to do everything you’ll like. They won’t. It happens with every president, governor, and official ever elected to office.

Voting for a candidate is nothing more than who you have a good “feeling” about. They’re polititians and damn good liars. What they say now has no bearing on what they’ll do after elected.

  6. There’s nothing wrong with not voting — our forefathers fought for the right for us to vote, and believe it or not, that encompases the right to not vote if that is your wish. The fact that so many people don’t vote isn’t necessarily a bad thing eitehr — it shows that we as a people are overall pretty satisfied with the way things are going. That being said, y’all are right in that you can’t bitch if you don’t vote. But so long as you’re content and don’t plan on bitching, I’d rather see you stay home than cast an uneducated vote. That’s how people like Jesse the Body and Arnold are elected.

  7. You know i love you Nick, but I cant vote legally because im too young and I am still politicaly active. I am actually suprised you said that. You dont have to really watch the debates and read the articles on them (but I read and write them) all you have to do is go to one page that my History teacher has on her wall and find an issue you feel strongly about and vote for the candidate that agrees with you on that issue. I will have the web site by the end of the day because it is a good one. It will only take 10 min of you keeping track of issues rather than playing on PartyPoker even though that is more fun :P.

  8. Voting for the President is basically like picking the lesser of the two evils. Who really agrees with everything either candidate is for or against. Very few I would venture to say. Personally, I’m not crazy about Kerry, but I’ll be damned if I want to see Bush in office again. You do what you can. And if you don’t vote, you can’t bitch about anything either.

  9. That’s just my thing…I don’t have a reason to vote for either one. I could vote for Bush because Kerry’s head is too big for TV or I could vote for Kerry because all I hear is that we don’t want Bush again.

Corwin…playing on Party is much more fun than looking up political issues. šŸ˜‰

  10. Ok but if bush wins and he nukes your city to make money, and drafts your family to Iraq and takes the police, fire, and education departments away from this country, you cant complain to me when your in a meat grinder.
