Does anyone know of a good company to get a dedicated server to host my sites? I have some new projects in the works and shared hosting just won’t cut it anymore. 1&1 has some good pricing on dedicated servers, but I have a free account through them and I hate their Control Panel and the fact that I need they use different usernames for everything. One for FTP, another for MySQL, others for email, etc. I love my current host, Aplus.net, but they won’t do any type of price matching for me, so it looks like I’ll have to make a switch.
I’m not looking for anything super special. I want a good processor, decent HD space, a lot of bandwitdh…pretty much all the basics.
Suggestions?

Try theplanet.com or servermatrix.com, same company different markets.
Those are unmanaged dedicated servers. Depending on your price range, you can get a decent managed server for $400 a month…
However, if you pick up an unmanaged server around $99 / month and go with a service like http://www.acunett.com who will do the security and help with the management, it isn’t that hard.
but if you want a server for under $99 a month, its pretty hard to find a good one.
What ever you do, make sure you secure it…

$400? 1&1 has them for $109 and less, Aplus has them for $149 and less, and both are managed servers.

We use Canaca.com. 30 Gig hard drive, 120 GB bandwidth. Decent processors and memory. Current plan we use is VPS.
Good luck!

I’ve been using Verio for the past four and a half years hosting my sites and about 17 others. Very excellent service and product; best thing on this package as well is that there is no limit/charge on bandwidth. Also, this package allows total control of ownership of file permissions, etc.

I *love* HostingMatters.com – I have hosted with them (as a reseller) for over 3 years and they have always been fantastic. Their dedicated rates are great. Hope that helps!

http://theplanet.com/ and http://servermatrix.com/ were suggested to me by Matt and they both look pretty good. Matt uses theplanet and “their support and network is excellent.” He also said, “From what I
understand servermatrix is the same company in the same datacenter but with less support.”
Edit: Didn’t even realize that Patrick suggested these same ones in the first comment…shows how much I’ve been into my blog lately! π

With that said, I think I’ll be going with this. It looks like one of the best deals out there and fits in my budget. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I won’t be signing up for a few days, so if anyone has anymore ideas, let me know.

It’s all up in the air now. I’m not really sure I need a dedicated server and I know that I don’t want to be responsible for security wherever I host my site. The only real need I have is more data transfer bandwidth per month. I’m already approaching my limits and I’ll be moving a few other domains over so that they are all at one hosting company. I may be sticking with Aplus after all. Who knows!

1&1 has great managed server packages that might be just what I need. You can’t beat the price either.

Have looked into Server Intellect? We use them for about 6 of our server. They have a great support and response team.
