  1. Michael Chriton. Wrote Jurassic Park, Congo, and Timeline, that got made into some good movies and some crappy. They have a similar writting style. I would start with Timeline, the book is on my top 5 list.

  2. Michael Crichton and the same style as Brown? Don’t even begin to compare that. Crichton also does research based novels. The similarity ends there.

Danny boy is not really that good an author. But his research, legit OR otherwise, is certainly interesting. He can’t write fiction the way Dickens can. He can’t write a mystery the way Erle Stanley Gardner can. He can’t bring out facts based on research the way Michael Crichton can. But he can produce a decent combo of these. Mix in as much controversy as human digestion can allow, and he gets the best-seller.

His novel was interesting, and the plot, gripping. But his style of writing was BARELY adequate. Nothing more.

  6. How can you criticize his work? I’d like to see how easy it would be for you to write a best seller. What makes you so good at judging which books are written well and which aren’t? The question was about other books that are like those written by Dan Brown, if you don’t like his work then don’t leave a comment.

  7. You guys at the end sure like to mess things up. Didn’t you notice what the question was. “Do any of you know any authors similair to Brown.” What losers. This is not a page for criticizing everybody. JEEZE!!!

  8. I too really enjoy Dan Brown works and was wondering what other authors were similar to him in style… I JUST started reading for pleasure like two weeks ago and “The Da Vinci Code” was my first read followed byb “Demons and Angels” can you say hooked? DC was the better of the two and I’ll be reading either Digital Forest or Deception Point next.

  9. I think Dan Brown’s writing style is excellent. I only started reading fiction about 1 year ago. Up until then everything I read was non-fiction and texts for Finance and other Acadamia. My wife bought Da Vinci code last year for the beach. It rained while we were there so I picked up the book and finished it the next day. I’ve since read Angels and Demons and Deception Point. Just started Digital Fortress this week. All are really good. How can you criticize Dan Brown’s writing style?? I just read Dean Koontz – “By the light of the Moon” and let me tell you… Probably could have cut out about 300 pages of fluff. Dan Brown’s books feels as if every paragraph has relevance. People who think his writing is of poor quality are probably the same ‘artsy’ type people who think an organe dot on a canvas is fascinating art. They love the B.S. Not me. I don’t have time. If you can say it in 1 sentence then don’t say it in 12 paragrahps. Thank you to those who made recommendations of other books. I will check them out.

  10. I think that everyone’s missing the point in this disscussion. The question is “Does anyone know of any authors that write books similar to Dan BrownÒ€ℒs style?”, not rather you lik or dislike Dan Brown’s writing style. If you have any other comments or opinion please restrain yourselves from posting them here. I personally think its wrong that you would flatout say that any of DB’s novels are poorly written or what not. Everyone has differnet writing styles that they enjoy and if you don’t have a nice comment to say please don’t say it.

I myself enjoy reading Browns novel and admire the way that he can combine both fact and fiction the way that he does. If anyone has any books they would like to recommend, i’d be delighted if you would post them up. Thank yu =]

  11. Try Greg Iles. Dead Sleep and 24 hours were good. Similar speed of plot progression and he has the ability to keep you wanting to read on. Michael Crichton just doesn’t really compare – different flow. I think the flow of events is what everyone likes about Browns style. Not the poetic or elaborate use of grammar and vocabulary. It’s more of a style everyone can relate to and understand what he’s trying to convey. Cheers!!
