Weight Watchers

A friend/co-worker, Bill, has joined Weight Watchers to help him lose weight. He’s been working at it for 2 or 3 months and only 5 pounds have come off, so he decided to get some help. I’ve always wondered about these types of groups, but it is paying dividends for numerous people here at SVSU. I know several people who have lost 20-30 pounds and are looking great. I hope it works out the same for Bill.

I wanted to see where I ranked, so I took at quick look at the weight chart in one of Bill’s books. A 6 foot 1 inch male up through the age of 24 should ideally weigh 172 pounds. At 25 and up to something like 48 it jumps to 182 pounds. I’m somewhere right in the middle of those two weights so I’m doing well given the fact that I haven’t run or worked out in months. The only real exercise I’ve been getting is when I go golfing or mow the lawn, and that isn’t much. Mental note: Start a routine of running 3-4 times a week after I get back from CA.

  1. Hey, that 3-4 times a week will do wonders for your back 9. You might also play better poker when the clock gets past midnight. It’s amazing what getting your heartrate up will do. I struggle with drinking way to much soda and I feel like crap at the end of the day. Idealy I should be running more and drinking soda once a week or less.

  2. Pop/soda is a killer. Back on January 1st I cut out pop completely and went a few months without any at all, but now have maybe one or two a week. I drink a lot of water and joice instead. I just need to get into an excercise routine and get more sleep.

  3. I have a bad soda habit myself and have for years. It was mt. dew than diet mt. dew until I found out that the diet mt. dew has a particular ingredient in it, aspartame. Turns out they did a test on college students to find out why there IQ’s were lowering. Come to find out, it was in part due to the high intake of soda for caffeine that they would drink to stay awake and cram for tests. Not just any soda though, diet soda in particular, diet soda containing..you guessed it aspartame. Turns out aspartame basically turns to furmaldihide in your body, this essentially creates holes in your brain…IE: lowered IQ Here’s the good news, stop drinking any soda that contains aspartame and the affects will eventually be reversed. Thought everyone could benefit from this information if you didn’t know already.
