Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars BattlefrontAfter all of the hype I had heard/read about Star Wars Battlefront, I’m very disappointed. The game is pretty weak IMHO. All you do is run around shooting the enemy and try not to shoot the dumbasses on your team who keep running in your line of fire. And then you do it again. And again. What kind of a Star Wars game doesn’t let you use THE FORCE or a lightsaber?

During each battle you have the choice of 4 or 5 different characters to fight with. This may be the coolest part of the game because each character has their own weapons. One other cool part is the ability to jump in any vehicle. Other than that, the game is pretty boring! Save your money for Halo 2, which comes out 2 weeks from today.

New Purchases

I haven’t been to Best Buy in a few weeks so I stopped by today to pick up the newly released Star Wars Trilogy on DVD. I also couldn’t resist grabbing Star Wars Battlefront for XBOX after hearing a few friends talk about how awesome it is supposed to be. A simple trip ended up costing me $100. I figured it will be a nice reward for getting the new website done this week. So I promised myself that I won’t touch the DVDs or game until the poker chip tricks site is launched. While waiting in line at the gas pump I opened both packages so the temptation is really there now! It would be so easy to pull out the disc and play, but the goal is in reach. As long as Dave finishes up the video editing tomorrow, I shouldn’t have a problem (no pressure Dave!).

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Lord of the Rings: Return of the KingI had never thought too much of these type of games, but after playing it this past weekend and beating the co-op mode in 2 sittings with Jere, I was impressed. On Saturday night we were up until 6 a.m. before we decided we better get some sleep! It would have taken much longer to beat had I not been killing everyone, making up for Jere’s lack of kills. πŸ˜‰

It follows the story of the movie very well and is put together nicely for a video game. You get to choose between several different characters at different points of the game. As you play through, you gain experience points by killing the enemies. The more hits/kills you string together, the more points you gain. With these experience points, you can buy new attacks and special powers. It’s pretty sweet.

I played most of the time as Legolas and I was loving his arrow upgrades, especially the final upgrade which allowed me to shoot two arrows at once. We never did try Gandalf, although I hear he is an ass-kicker. One thing I know for sure…Frodo is a pussy!

Compared to some of my other favorite XBOX games, it ranks right up there and I give it an A-.

XBOX Price Drop

Microsoft has dropped the price of the XBOX again. Now it’s down to $149.99, compared to $299.99 when it was first released a few years ago. Looking at Best Buy’s website, the PS2 hasn’t dropped their price, but I imagine they will soon follow. I just don’t understand how Microsoft can keep lowering the price since even at the recent prices they were losing money each time they sold a system. I guess they figure on making all of that lost money back on the sales of games, accessories, and XBOX Live subscriptions.
