Failed

I failed my Micosoft certification test today. I took exam 070-305, which is for Visual Basic.NET with ASP.Net. The class I took through HOTT was a great class, but I’m not buying into their guarantee:

HOTT guarantees that students will pass related certification exams, or HOTT will pay for a retake.

Well over half of the questions on the test were not on things covered in the class. I think I did a pretty good job of making educated guesses, but still came up well short of passing. I needed a score of 700 to pass and only achieved a 602 604. Ouch! I don’t think I’ve ever failed a test before today.

Update: After talking with some people at HOTT, they actually recommend taking the Introduction and Advanced classes for VB.NET before taking the test. So in reality I did pretty good then, with the limited knowledge that I had.

Good Friday

Is it really that good? I’m still at work, which is extemely slow by the way. A lot of people have taken the at least a portion of the day off to go to church or do whatever. Since I’m taking so many other days off during the month, I’m stuck here. Maybe I’ll get to leave early and head up north before all of the traffic gets crazy. Yes, I’m headed up to my parents’ place for the first time since the middle of January. Hopefully it will be a relaxing weekend and I’m trying to talk Mom and Dad (well, Mom is easy to convince) to head up to St. Ignace to the casino on Saturday night. I think it would be fun. Today is Isaac’s birthday so I guess we are going out to eat at the Chinese place in town when I get there.

I haven’t even packed anything for the trip home yet…but I guess that’s nothing new for me. I’m hauling a bunch of Heather’s shit home too I guess to make it easier on the final moving days. On Monday I have an appointment to get my teeth cleaned up there, so I won’t have to battle with the Easter traffic, which is kind of nice.

Last night was a pretty good night. Heather and Steve went looking for futons with me and I found some really nice ones at the Mattress Connection on Tittabawasee, the same place I bought my bed two years ago. They really do have the best matresses around and their prices are pretty competitive. I didn’t order it yet, but will do that on Monday when I get back. We also grilled out on my new grill last night and it worked pretty well. I think I’ll be doing a lot more grilling now that I know it’s so easy. I also have plans to get a new cell phone on Monday so I’m pretty pumped about that. Verizon finally has the phone I’ve wanted and with the “New Every Two” I can get a new phone 2 months before my contract is up.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Easter!

The Trip

Sorry for the lack of postings this past week, but I didn’t have Internet access readily available. With that said, here is how the week went…

On Sunday, we (mom went with) took off for Detroit around 10 a.m. We had a connecting flight in Chicago and ended up landing in San Diego at about 6 p.m. It was nice gaining the extra 3 hours. The temperature was 78 degrees, but it was almost dark already. We picked up our rental car (Pontiac Grand Am), checked into the Wyndham (a very nice hotel) and grabbed something to eat at Chili’s, which was right in front of the hotel. After eating we decided to hit up a casino.

The Viejas Casino (pronounced “Vee-A-Haas”) was one that I had found online with a poker room. I scoped out the poker room and put my name on a waiting list for a table. It wasn’t too long and I was playing the $2/$4 beginner Hold’em table. Since it was the beginner table to teach people how to play, check-raising was not allowed. Talk about a loose table! People were playing every hand imaginable. I didn’t really get shit for cards the whole night or I could have made out like a bandit. Played for about 3 and a half hours and lost $22. Not too bad considering how bad my cards were.

Off To Sunny San Diego

Tomorrow, I’m off to San Diego for a week. I’m taking a Visual Basic.NET class for work, which will take up most of the day, but I don’t plan on doing much sleeping during the week. I’ve never been out to the west coast so I’m going to make the most of it. I’m really looking forward to the nice weather (forecast is calling for 70s all week) and I can’t wait to play some poker in the casinos!

I’ll try to make a post every day or two, but I’m not sure how much Internet access I’ll have. Once I get back to Michigan on Saturday, I’ll be sure to post all of the pictures and give you updates on how the trip went.

Some Kind Of Flu

I started coming down with something on Monday night. I could feel my throat getting a little scratchy and the stuffiness was starting. Tuesday at work I felt like shit all day long, but managed to get through it. When I got home I went straight to bed for about 2 hours. I felt a little bit better, but still went to sleep at 11:00 last night.

Today when I woke up it was worse. Stuffed up even more and something is going on in the back of my throat. I called in sick to work and went back to sleep. Ended up crawling out of bed around 9:30 this morning and felt pretty good…I thought. I answered a few emails, had some cereal, and watched a little TV. After moving around the house for a bit, I started to feel really weak, so I dicided a shower should help.

Soon after, I began working on my brother’s computer and then it hit me. I’m not sure if it was all the dust flying around my room or the fact that I had to move his computer from the floor to my bed several times. I started to feel like I might pass out, so I took a little break. After I was done, I watched a movie and got a bite to eat. Back to bed after the movie for about an hour and a half. I just got up not too long ago and steel feel like ass.

I hate being sick!

Terrific Tuesday

It was a good day today. I don’t feel like typing much, so I’m going to keep this short.

I had a 30 minute phone interview for a programmer/analyst position in Kalamazoo. I think it went pretty well. My new Norelco came in and I can’t wait to try it tomorrow morning. I called M that I met at the bar the other night. We had a nice little chat and are planning to go out. I’m pretty excited since I never go on dates! We lost our basketball game again in the last few minutes. Not sure when playoffs start.

I’m done for the night…

This And That

Went out to an 80’s bar last night with a few friends and ended up staying until closing time. As a result I’m feeling a little “under the weather” today. The bar is pretty cool…they have a big screen TV that they play videos on while the song is playing, so you get the feeling that you’re back in the day, listening to some of the music we grew up on. They played some pretty good songs last night, but they also played a lot of garbage I had never heard of. The highlight of the night was when I asked a cutie for her number and got it. To tell you the truth, I don’t think I’ve ever asked for digits before. I also had another first last night…I’ve never tried to tie a cherry stem in a knot with my mouth, but did it on my first try.

No Go For Vegas

The training class I wanted to take in Las Vegas was canceled so I had to pick another city. I was really getting excited about going to Vegas too! Booked the class and reservations today and I’ll be heading to San Diego in about 2 and a half weeks. I could have went to Phoenix, AZ, but I’ve already been there before so I wanted to go somewhere new. The course I’ll be taking is Introduction to Visual Basic.Net.
