Pass, Fail

I was cramming all night. Finally decided to get a little sleep at 6:30 AM and woke up again at 8 to study some more and get ready for the tests. 1.5 hours of sleep…not bad! I managed to get through all 193 pages of Microsoft ASP.NET Setup and Configuration Pocket Reference. A great little book for the price. The next step was to tackle the 1527 page monster, Programming Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (Core Reference), which is another great book. I made it through all but 2 chapters.

Exam 70-305 was the first test of the day and the one I feared the most because I failed to pass it almost 3 months ago. Not this time though. I needed a 700 to pass and achieved a 775. It seemed a lot easier this time around. Exam 70-306 came next and I didn’t know what to expect. Again I needed a 700, but barely missed it with a 675, which must be only one or two questions! While studying, I had focused on 70-305 because I didn’t want to fail again, so I missed a few things that were on 70-306. I plan to retake it in the next week or two though and pass with flying colors.

Once I pass it, I’ll only need to pass Exam 70-310 and then I’ll be a MCAD. After that I could take two more tests (70-300 & 70-229) to become a MCSD. According to recent reports, salaries are on the rise for Microsoft Certified Professionals. Sounds like a plan to me.

A Busy Week Means A Quiet Week

Just a warning that I have a very busy week ahead. On Friday I’m taking a couple of Microsoft certification tests, so all of my free time will be spent studying. I don’t have much free time as it is, so updates and posts to the site will be few and far between, if any at all. I’m also trying to get into a sleeping routine, which hasn’t been going so well. Starting last week I’ve been going to bed before 11:00 during the week, trying to get more sleep. It’s not working! I haven’t been able to sleep worth a shit since I’ve been doing this. In fact, I’m home sick from work today because I’m rundown. The last thing I want to do is risk getting mono again, so I always play it safe when I feel like this. I was getting more rest by going to bed at 1:00 AM…I just don’t understand! So, when I’m not at work, studying, or trying to sleep, I’ll be biking or eating. As you can see, it doesn’t leave much time for working on the web.

It’s a bad week for this to happen though, especially with all of the new domains I’ve recently registered. In addition to the ones I posted about the other day, I have one that just completed a transfer today. I had to buy it from someone who had it registered, so I’ve wanted to keep it quiet until it was in my name. I’ve got some pretty big plans for it, which I’m extremely excited about. It’s just too bad that I’ll have to wait until the weekend to get started on it. I’ve also purchased my own dedicated server, where I’ll be running all of my sites from. I have to transfer everything over to the server from my current hosting providers and update the domain names to use this new server. In that process, mtdewvirus.com might “disappear” for a day or two, but I’ll try to make the transition as smooth as possible. If anyone has any suggestions for this process, I’m all ears! Since I have my own server, I now have the means to host people’s sites with all of the extra space and bandwidth I’m paying for. If you are interesting in starting a site, or need a place to host your domains, contact me and I’ll see what we can work out.

As you can see, a busy week for me means a quiet week for the site. 😐

Update On Changes

Back on the 1st of the year, I set some goals for 2004. I just wanted to bring it back up and give some updates on how things are going…

  • Get a new job in the area of programming.

-I had the job at SVSU all lined up, but then got screwed. This is still in the plans for my near future.

  • Cut down on my sarcasm.

-I’ve realized that I am who I am and all of my sarcasm isn’t a bad thing, so everyone is just going to have to live with it!

  • Try to relate to others more…walk in their shoes.

-I think I’ve done a decent job on this at times, but it’s something I still need to work on.

  • Open up. Everyone knows that I’m shy. It’s just how I’ve always been, even thought I don’t like it. I want to try to get away from that.

-This ain’t easy, but I’m still trying!

  • Get into shape (physically) and stay fit.

-With the recent purchase of a bike, I’ve been riding 4 days a week and feeling great! It’s the best purchase I’ve made all year. Maybe not the coolest purchase (TV takes the cake!), but definitely a great investment.

  • Stop drinking pop. I had done it for a few months earlier in the year, so I know that it can be done.

-I had compeletely quit for a few months. Now I have one or two a week at the most. It’s amazing how much better I feel and how much money I save.

I think I’ve done a pretty good job with everything so far. I’m living by myself for the first time in my life and loving it. It’s been a great summer so far and I don’t expect anything less from the 2nd half.

Is Midnight AM Or PM?

The power went out in my house at some point yesterday so when I got home from work all of the clocks were blinking and my computer was off. Not a big deal. Right? Wrong!

I didn’t get around to setting my alarm clock until after midnight because I didn’t have a need to use it until I was setting the alarm. No matter how many times I’ve set a clock in my life, I always go right past 12 a couple of times before realizing that it comes after 11. I don’t know what it is. Maybe I’m just too quick on the buttons. So I finally settled on 12, set the minutes, and set the alarm time. Time to get some sleep.

In the morning I rolled over at about 6:50 and noticed that I still had another 10-15 minutes to sleep. Always a welcome fact. So I closed my eyes and drifted back to sleep. I roll over again and the clock now shows 7:42! WHAT THE FUCK! I quickly notice a dot in the corner of the display, which means the time is set for 7:42 PM. This is where I start to feel like a complete dumb ass…as I should. It’s not the first time that something like this has happened, but usually it’s the alarm time that I’ve set incorrectly.

So I end up 30 minutes late for work and I feel stupid. I can’t even tell time correctly. Maybe I should convert to military time.

Workin' It

Today was one of the best days at work that I’ve had in a long time. It flew by because of this, so that was an added bonus. About 2 months ago I was assigned the task of HEAT Administrator for our Help Desk. No added pay or job title, just another responsibility. HEAT is our call logging system, which communicates with an SQL server as the back-end. I love getting my hands in this type of stuff.

Off To Sacramento

Later today I’ll be taking off for Detroit and then flying out to Sacramento, CA. I haven’t done laundry or packed a thing, so I’ve got a few things on my “To Do List” for this morning! For the next week, the site will be a little “dead”, but I do have dial-up access in the hotel so I’ll check things at least once a day.

A few things I need to do on the site when I get back:

  1. Create header images for the BluePrint and GanGreen styles.
  2. Create a new favicon.
  3. Work on a few more WP Plugins.
  4. Clean up some code.
  5. Get a new photo gallery up and running.

Now you have something to look forward to…right?

Enough Posts About The Site!

I haven’t posted much lately about what I’ve been up to, so here it is…

As you can probably tell I’ve spent a lot of time over the past 5 days working on the site. I’m happy with the outcome and will be taking some time off. I say that, but it never really happens. πŸ˜‰

Golf season is in “full swing” now and Mother Nature seems to be playing nice again. I’m playing in two leagues again this year and then I try to get out at least once on the weekends. My game has been pretty steady so far, but on Monday I sucked! The only thing I was doing right was putting. My swing had been feeling good so far and then it was like I forgot everything in one day. I still love the game though. There isn’t another sport like it.

I’m getting excited about going to Sacramento, CA next week. I’ll be taking an Advanced Visual Basic.NET class for work. It’s nice to get some time away from the office, especially when it’s all paid for. Sure, I’ll have class all day, but after 5, it’s all play with little time for sleep. My Mom and sister, Heather, are tagging along for the ride I guess. Hopefully I’ll be able to hit up a casino or two and play some poker. I really enjoyed it when I was out in San Diego, so I hope there is a similar casino in the area. I should be able to take a lot more pictures on this trip since there will be more daylight to enjoy the weather and scenery. Look for photos when I get back.

I’m absolutely loving it having a place all to myself! I may never live with another human being again. OK…so I won’t, but I sure do enjoy it. I have all the piece and quiet I could ever ask for.

Other than that, not too much exciting has been going on.
