I Code

Today was the first day in a long time that I didn’t want to leave work at 4:30. I’ve been coding a program for the past week and because of the short work day I didn’t get time to work on it until almost 4:00. I was just getting into the zone and found out where my bug was when a co-worker mentioned it was time to go home. Time flies when you’re doing what you like.

I’m pretty excited about the program and it helps to remind me of what I really love doing. The program is written in VB.NET and interacts with a SQL server. It basically pulls records about everyone affiliated (students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc.) with SVSU from a text file, compares it to the data in the database used by our call tracking software (HEAT), and updates the database. I’ve had plans for this program dating back 6 months ago when I requested the data files. It’s just a shame it took 6 months to get someone to spend 10 minutes out of their day to add a few lines of code to their script that would FTP me the daily download file.

Ultimate SPAM Filter

Lately the SPAM coming through to my work email address has dropped off considerably. Well…today while troubleshooting a problem with my email I found out that I was blocking all email from the svsu.edu domain. Nearly 400 messages had been blocked so far…whoops!

Day 2 In Philly

Today, in the first day of class, we covered a lot of material that I had already learned from classes I took during college, so it wa a little boring. After class, I waited for Lindsay to return from her trolley tour and then we headed off for some excitement. I promise this post isn’t nearly as long as Lindsay’s was yesterday…

I'm Off…

In about an hour I’ll be taking off for Flint, flying to Chicago, and then arriving in Philadelphia sometime after 6 (their time). Lindsay and I always have fun, so it should be a blast. I have no clue what we are doing though, I left all of the planning up to Lindsay (teachers have all that damn free time in the summer). The training class should be really good too. I know bits and pieces of SQL, but I expect to learn a lot. We fly back into Flint late Friday night and then on Saturday night I’m going up to Harbor Springs for 3 full days of golfing 36 holes a day. 12 days away from the office couldn’t come at a better time! I’ll try to post pictures and updates throughout the week.
