WordPress Plugin: Card Converter

Card Converter is a WordPress plugin with poker bloggers in mind, but it can be used by anyone who would like to display playing cards in posts and comments. It will take card abbreviations such as Ad (meaning Ace of diamonds) and convert it to a CSS graphical-like representation of the card. Inspiration for the plugin came from Chris Halverson‘s Pokerhand plugin and the CSS cards on the World Poker Tour Fan Site.

The plugin has moved to the WordPress Plugin Repository. All development and files will be available there from now on.

WordPress Plugin: Last Modified

While working on my new Poker Chip Tricks site, I had the need to show the date and time that a post was last modified. I didn’t feel like looking around on the WP site to see if a plugin was already written, so I wrote my own. It’s just a simple little plugin, but it does exactly what I want it to. You can find it along with all of the other plugins that I’ve written. Enjoy!

Comments Posted Elsewhere

It’s been awhile since I’ve released any WordPress plugins or even worked on any for that matter. But today, I’m releasing a new one called Comments Posted Elsewhere. You can find it in the WP Plugins Repository here. The entire idea for this one goes out to Neil Uchitel who came to me with the idea.

The basic idea behind the plugin is to keep track of where you post comments on other blogs. Basically mini linkage to posts you found interesting enough to comment on. You can see it in use at Neil’s blog (right hand column) and I plan to implement it here soon enough. Neil has done all of the testing and has written a tutorial on how to use it. The plugin was written by yours truly and is nothing more than a modification of my Recent Comments plugin. Enjoy!

WordLog

Carthik has started a site for WordPress news. It’s called WordLog and sounds like a great idea. I’ve added it to the links section of my sidebar so that I can tell when it’s updated. I’m not quite sure what “Alpha Users” are, but I’m listed there. Maybe Carthik will be contacting me soon…

Over the past few months I have not been active at all in the Support Forums, compared to before when I was one of the top 5 posters there. Part of me feels bad, but part doesn’t. I think I’ve mainly stopped visiting the forums because too many people ask the same questions over and over. It got old pretty quick when I kept referring people to the Wiki or to the same posts all the time. A few times a week I’ll get an email or IM from someone needing help, which I’m always glad to do, but I wish people would at least try to figure things out on their own first. Search the forums, visit the Wiki, use Google, browse other WP blogs, and if you can’t find your answer ask someone who might know. WordLog should help to resolve some of these problems in communication by being a central location for plugin and hack announcements.

Is Photo Matt Gone For Good?

I sure hope not. Matt introduced me to a whole new world when I stumbled across his site back in October-November. He suggested WordPress for use with my new blog and the rest is history. I’ve learned CSS, XHTML, and PHP. I’ve tried to conform to web standards as much as I can. To say the least…Matt has had a great influence on me, which has provided many hours of enjoyment.

I think the key point to remember is that Matt never said for how long he was going to take his site down. It could be forever (I doubt) or it could be just a few days.

According to Google I am the # 7 most important Matt in the world. When I reach the top of that list I’m going to take my website down.

Come back soon Matt!!
