The Weeks Ahead

Over the past few days, I’ve been quiet on the site again. I’ve been busy studying for my test, which paid off. August is going to be a busy month for me, so I just wanted to warn everyone that I won’t have as much time for quality posting.

Tomorrow I’m heading up to Rogers City for the Nautical Festival. We like to call it the “Naughty Fest!” It’s pretty much non-stop drinking for 4 days. Pre-partying with a keg at someone’s house, walking to the beer tent, bullshitting all night, and dancing occassionally. After the tent closes, everyone walks to the bar for more drinking and bullshitting. It’s one of the funnest weekends of the year for me. Then on Monday I have a dentist appointment before I come back to Saginaw.

No big plans for the week after I come back, but on the 15th I’m heading to Philadelphia for a SQL training class. My friend Lindsay is going along for the trip, so it should be fun. We’ll get back to Michigan late on the 20th. Then on Sunday (22nd), I’m driving up north for a 3 day golfing trip. This might be my 2nd funnest couple of days of the year. (I like the word funnest!)

There are 20 guys that go and we play 36 holes a day at Boyne Highlands. They are great courses that are always in great shape. Each round of 18, we are paired up with different guys and there is always some type of competition with cash prizes. Every par 3 has a closest to the pin contest too. The highlight of the trip is the Hackers vs. Whackers match play. We play 10 guys to each team, and play 5 matches for a trophy and bragging rights. It’s just an all around great time.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the month.

Have A Safe Flight

My buddy Case just said, “have a safe flight” on IM. I know we are just being polite and thoughtful when we say it, kind of like, “drive safe.” But…on an airplane do we really have any control over how safely we arrive at our destination? Just a thought…

The Trip Part II

I forgot to add this to the first post

So we left the casino at 4:30 a.m. on what was now Saturday. Got to the hotel shortly after 5 (it is getting light at this time in California already), packed everything up and headed off to take the car back just before 6. When we got to the airport and checked in, it was close to 7 in the morning. I took about a 15 minute power nap in the airport and slept for about 2 hours on the flight to Chicago. The little naps helped a little bit, but I was still dead because I had been awake since 8 the day before. Our flight arrived 10 minutes early and we headed home to Saginaw. I flew home because I kept falling asleep on the way and wanted to get here as soon as possible. I jumped in the shower and was sleeping by 9 p.m. I didn’t wake up this morning until after 11!! 14 hours of sleep!

…and I’m still tired and still sick!

The Trip

Sorry for the lack of postings this past week, but I didn’t have Internet access readily available. With that said, here is how the week went…

On Sunday, we (mom went with) took off for Detroit around 10 a.m. We had a connecting flight in Chicago and ended up landing in San Diego at about 6 p.m. It was nice gaining the extra 3 hours. The temperature was 78 degrees, but it was almost dark already. We picked up our rental car (Pontiac Grand Am), checked into the Wyndham (a very nice hotel) and grabbed something to eat at Chili’s, which was right in front of the hotel. After eating we decided to hit up a casino.

The Viejas Casino (pronounced “Vee-A-Haas”) was one that I had found online with a poker room. I scoped out the poker room and put my name on a waiting list for a table. It wasn’t too long and I was playing the $2/$4 beginner Hold’em table. Since it was the beginner table to teach people how to play, check-raising was not allowed. Talk about a loose table! People were playing every hand imaginable. I didn’t really get shit for cards the whole night or I could have made out like a bandit. Played for about 3 and a half hours and lost $22. Not too bad considering how bad my cards were.

Off To Sunny San Diego

Tomorrow, I’m off to San Diego for a week. I’m taking a Visual Basic.NET class for work, which will take up most of the day, but I don’t plan on doing much sleeping during the week. I’ve never been out to the west coast so I’m going to make the most of it. I’m really looking forward to the nice weather (forecast is calling for 70s all week) and I can’t wait to play some poker in the casinos!

I’ll try to make a post every day or two, but I’m not sure how much Internet access I’ll have. Once I get back to Michigan on Saturday, I’ll be sure to post all of the pictures and give you updates on how the trip went.
