XM Update

Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from XM regarding updates to their service.

Beginning April 2, 2005, we will expand the basic service package to include two premium services at no additional charge — the High Voltage channel (previously $1.99/month) and XM Radio Online (previously $3.99/month). The monthly subscription price for our new expanded basic service will increase to $12.95 beginning April 2, 2005.

At first I wasn’t too happy, but then I saw that I could lock in my current rate by paying for a whole year. I plan to do that in the next few days. I’m also glad that I’ll be able to use the XM Radio Online service and will get the High Voltage channel.

Could this be the start of a merge with Sirius? I’ve read rumors of XM buying Sirius and this seems like it could be a first step in that process. Sirius has already given their users an online option and included premium stations, so maybe XM is just stepping up to the plate in an attempt to get more of the market.

XM MyFi

Delphi MyFi XM2GO Portable XM Satellite Radio Receiver with Home / Car KitsI’ve been wanting an XM Radio for some time now and after seeing this little gadget at the car show, I decided to pick one up today from Best Buy. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to play around with it, but from what I’ve seen, it’s a great unit. The highlight for me is the fact that it’s so portable and comes with everything I need to use it at home, on the road, or anywhere else.

Man Power!

DeWalt 18 volt Cordless DrillAs a house warming gift my Dad bought me a DeWalt 18 volt Cordless Drill/Driver Kit. It’s a sweet gift. I don’t know what it is about having a cordless power tool in your hands, but it sure does make a guy feel good. [Insert Tim the Toolman sounds!]

It came with 2 batteries, a charger, two ended screwdriver bit, and a nice case for it all. I also picked up a Craftsman drill bit set to go with it. The project for today is drilling holes in the celing to support me rear channel speakers for the full surround sound effect. I already got started, but have to wait for a battery to charge since they were pretty much dead to begin with.

All I need now is a saw and I think I could build my own house without too much trouble. Haha!

New Toys

Today I bought a new electric razor on Ebay. I went with a Norelco Advantage 6737XB, since it’s one of the best models made my Norelco. My Remington just hasn’t been treating me too well anymore, so it was time for a change. Suprisingly I was the only person to bid on the auction. It went for $70 and the razor sells for over $120 in the stores, so I’d say I got a pretty good deal on it.

I’m also finally moved over to my new computer as my main box. I finished installing all of my software today and then moved an extra NIC and HD over from the old computer. The next step is to get Linux running on the old box and I’ll be all set! I also need to find time to figure out what is wrong with my brother’s computer. I think the motherboard may be shot. I hate figuring out hardware problems!
