My First Amazon Purchase

In 2004, the first thing I bought with my Amazon account was the book, Every Second Counts about Lance Armstrong, which I still have on my bookshelf. It was $2.50 and $3.49 for shipping.

What’s the first thing you purchased on Amazon?

I love how Amazon alerts you of a previous order when visiting a product page. It came in handy the other day when I was looking at cameras.

Review: My Golf Locker

I decided to try out a new service, My Golf Locker, which sends you golf clothing and accessories matching a schedule and budget you select in your account. It looked neat.

It was not.

Their terrible web site should have tipped me off. Whenever you log in or visit your account page, you get a popup informing you of your successful log in, even if you were already logged in! Click out to another page, then click to access your account… “You’ve successfully logged in!” Talk about annoying.

The service lets you browse items on the site and select something if you want it included in your next shipment. Problem was, another piece of the service, would email you each day reminding you of an item you liked. It did this even after a box, which included the item they were relentlessly reminding me about, had been shipped.

When I looked at the contents of that first box, it included the rain pants I had selected and only 1 other item. A Nike golf shirt for $110! I don’t know who pays that much for a shirt, but definitely not me! If it was guaranteed to take 10 strokes off my score I might consider it.

I ended up finding a similar pair of rain pants at the Under Armor outlet in Birch Run for much cheaper so I returned the entire box. When the refund showed up on my credit card, I closed my account.

Don’t waste your time or money on My Golf Locker.

Watch Your Cart

I just went to purchase ER – The Complete Fourth Season from Amazon and made it all the way to the final step of checkout before realizing my total was over $1,500! My first thought was “That’s an expensive DVD.” Then I realized I still had an Apple iMac G5 in the shopping cart from a week ago. Kind of a neat little trick on Amazon’s part, but not very customer friendly if you ask me. A few clicks later the item was removed and my total price was normal again, but I would not have been a happy camper to find a new computer delivered to my doorstep (unless it was free).

A Little Shopping

Heather and Mom are visiting for the weekend, so we made a trip to the outlets in Birch Run yesterday. My plan was to buy some new polo shirts and maybe a few other things. I ended up spending over $300 on new clothes and shoes! What can I say? I’m a sucker for shopping. Most of the total was spent on two new pairs of Dr. Marten’s, one brown and one black. It’s hard to pass up a few nice pairs of shoes, especially when I actually find my size 14. The $80 price tag per pair was hard to pass up as well. Other than the shoes, I bought 5 polo shirts, 2 nice t-shirts, a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, and one of those shirts you keep wrinkly. It really has been a long time since I’ve done any clothes shopping, so it felt good to buy some new clothes.

We ended up going out to Red Lobster for dinner after shopping. Is that place the best restaurant on Earth or what?
