Barry Sanders: The Most Exciting Player in NFL History

While watching the Lions win their first road game since October of 2007, I though back to Barry Sanders. There has never been a more exciting player in the NFL and I’m not sure there ever will be. He was such a class act too. You never saw Barry show off or do an end zone dance. When he scored (often), he always dropped the ball or walked it over to the referee and headed straight for the sideline.

I’m glad he played for the Lions because I was able to see several of his games in person, but I can’t help but wonder how good he would have been playing behind the offensive lines of the Dallas Cowboys Emmitt Smith ran behind. How many more records would Barry have set? How many more years would we have been able to enjoy his talent if he hadn’t played for Detroit and retired early? We’ll never know.

Enjoy some Barry highlights…

Goodbye Joey

The Detroit Lions signed quarterbacks Jon Kitna and Josh McCown this week, which should mean they’ll be shipping Joey Harrington elsewhere. Finally some new coaches who can see where some of the problems start with this team.

Super Sunday

More like shitty as far as the Super Bowl went. I didn’t see the National Anthem, but I heard it from the other room and I swear my ears started to bleed. The refs continued their string of horrible calls in the 2006 playoffs by screwing Seattle out of a touchdown that anyone could see was not offensive pass interference. The game itself was rather boring I thought except for the WR to WR TD pass. The Rolling Stones have made some good music in their time, but there also comes a time when you have to hang ’em up. Watching 60+ year-old men dancing around on stage is not my idea of entertainment. It’s a miracle one of them didn’t break a hip.

We had a few people over to our new place and it was a good time. Little Caesar’s $3.33 medium pepperoni pizzas were the choice food and a few beers were killed to go along with it.

A Sporting Thanksgiving

As posted previously, I attended a few professional sports events over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last Wednesday (Nov. 23) my parents left Rogers City bright and early. I’m not sure why they came down so early, but I wasn’t too happy that they interrupted my Xbox 360 time since I had just hooked it up the night before. Luckily they went off to do a little shopping and I had a little more time by myself. We met up with my brother and ate lunch at the mall.

Warning! This post might be a novel since it’s been weeks since my last “real” update.

Wings, Lions, and Pistons

My Dad, brother, and I were planning on getting some tickets for the Lions Thanksgiving game this year, so I’ve been keeping an eye on eBay. It looked like it was going to be at least $300 for 3 tickets to the game, and those aren’t even for the good seats.

Yesterday I found a dream come true. There was an auction selling 3 tickets to the Detroit Red Wings vs. Colorado Avalanche game on the 23rd, Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons game on the 24th, and Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards game on the 25th. The auction had a But It Now price of only $550 with free shipping! After getting the seller to confirm that the tickets were all seated together I bought them quicker than Joey Harrington can make a dump off pass. None of the tickets are in great locations, but each of the venues have pretty good seats no matter where you sit.

Is that going to be one hell of a Thanksgiving or what? Talk about a sports dream! Seeing the Red Wings live at Joe Louis Arena is awesome, Ford Field is a great place to watch a football game, and the Pistons are always exciting. I’ll miss out on my favorite meal of the year, but it’ll be worth it.
