JAY-Z & Letterman

Last night I watched JAY-Z on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. I can’t recall ever watching an interview with JAY-Z before this, so it surprised me when he seemed a little awkward and uncomfortable. Especially for someone who might be the best artist of our generation. He had such a different presence than I got from Dr. Dre, another hip-hop legend, in The Defiant Ones. It’s quite possible it was because of editing or the format of the show though.

I’ve been listening to JAY-Z’s music for a long time, but never knew much about him. It was good watching him talk about his life and experiences as well as some of the tough conversations our country is having.

“The Defenders” Was Pretty Good

Last night I finished watching Marvel’s The Defenders on Netflix. It was a good 8 episodes bringing together the characters from the 4 individual shows. If I had to rank them I’d probably put Dare Devil and Jessica Jones at the top, then Defenders or Luke Cage, and Iron Fist at the bottom.

I’m looking forward to The Punisher series. As far as other shows on Netflix, I’ll watch Narcos season 3 next and then maybe The Keepers.

Netflix Rom-Coms

It’s a little-known fact that I enjoy romantic comedies, so when I saw the NY Times article Nine Underseen Rom-Coms on Netflix, it caught my attention. I’ve only seen Begin Again and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World from the list. I enjoyed both movies. Not surprising, they’re the two starring Keira Knightley. Most of the other 7 I’d never even heard of, but they’ve been added to My List on Netflix for those lonely winter nights.

Sense8

When I was told Sense8 wasn’t coming back for a 3rd season, I debated if I’d watch season 2. The show is set in multiple locations around the world, which made it one of the most expensive shows to produce. I enjoyed the first season, so I decided I’d go for it. Fans of the show made their disappointment heard and somehow it worked; Netflix announced they’d come back next year for a special 2 hour finale. Can you imagine ABC, CBS, or NBC doing that?

It was another good season and it had a lot of great music. The ending sucked because it sets up a 3rd season, which won’t happen now. Hopefully they can wrap everything up in 2 hours.

If you haven’t watched the show, give it a chance. It’s a very diverse show, which crosses a lot of cultures, uniting people. We need more of this in today’s world with some of the things going on.

The creator, cast, and crew put together this video talking about the improbability of the show coming back like this to thank all of the fans.
