Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich

“Pistol” Pete Maravich was the greatest college basketball player to ever play the game. The “Pistol” was a guard and he averaged over 40 points a game throughout college before there was ever a 3 point line. He had a great shot and actually made a lot of shots which would have easily been worth 3 points in today’s game. No one will ever come close to his scoring record.

Mark Kriegel did a great job writing this book as far as information goes, but his story telling left a little to be desired. I enjoyed reading the book because I learned a lot about “Pistol” Pete, but I felt as if I was struggling to get from page to page.

If you’re a basketball fan, I recommend reading this book to learn about one of the greatest players to play the game of basketball. Pete changed the way bball was played and is responsible for a lot of what we see today in games.

If It Ain't Rough, It Ain't Right

The Detroit Pistons once again showed their toughness last night, winning game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Miami Heat still hold a lead in the series at 3-2, but the pressure is now on them to win game 6 on their home court. Everyone knows the Miami doesn’t want to end up in a game 7 back at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Detroit doesn’t lose in those types of games at home.

Last night was the first time in a couple of weeks where the Pistons actually looked like the same team that went 64-18 in the regular season. If the Pistons came play with the same intensity they did last night and Rasheed Wallace can show up for a game I like our chances on Friday night. Don’t count this team out just yet.

A Sporting Thanksgiving

As posted previously, I attended a few professional sports events over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last Wednesday (Nov. 23) my parents left Rogers City bright and early. I’m not sure why they came down so early, but I wasn’t too happy that they interrupted my Xbox 360 time since I had just hooked it up the night before. Luckily they went off to do a little shopping and I had a little more time by myself. We met up with my brother and ate lunch at the mall.

Warning! This post might be a novel since it’s been weeks since my last “real” update.

Wings, Lions, and Pistons

My Dad, brother, and I were planning on getting some tickets for the Lions Thanksgiving game this year, so I’ve been keeping an eye on eBay. It looked like it was going to be at least $300 for 3 tickets to the game, and those aren’t even for the good seats.

Yesterday I found a dream come true. There was an auction selling 3 tickets to the Detroit Red Wings vs. Colorado Avalanche game on the 23rd, Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons game on the 24th, and Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards game on the 25th. The auction had a But It Now price of only $550 with free shipping! After getting the seller to confirm that the tickets were all seated together I bought them quicker than Joey Harrington can make a dump off pass. None of the tickets are in great locations, but each of the venues have pretty good seats no matter where you sit.

Is that going to be one hell of a Thanksgiving or what? Talk about a sports dream! Seeing the Red Wings live at Joe Louis Arena is awesome, Ford Field is a great place to watch a football game, and the Pistons are always exciting. I’ll miss out on my favorite meal of the year, but it’ll be worth it.

All Heart

The Detroit Pistons played with everything they had tonight and forced a game 7 in the NBA Finals. The first 4 games of the series were blowouts, but it’s turned into one hell of a series. Game 7 will be must watch TV.

NBA Movies

I really don’t care for the clips from upcoming movies the NBA has been using with the highlights during the playoffs. It’s just another example of how professional sports have become businesses instead of just entertainment.
