Once Upon A Time In Mexico

Once Upon a Time in Mexico (Superbit Collection)I wasn’t too sure about this movie when I saw the previews, but thought I’d watch it since a friend let me borrow it. To tell you the truth, I didn’t care for it. It’s not a horrible movie, but nothing spectacular either. One viewing is plenty for me.

The acting was good, but the story just wasn’t believable. There was a lot of action and shooting, but nothing I haven’t seen before. I thought the plot was actually pretty boring. For big names like Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Johnny Depp, Eva Mendes, Enrique Iglesias, and Cheech Marin I really expected a whole lot more.

I noticed a lot of errors in the movie. More than once blood or fruit was splattered on the camera. The greatest part of the movie was a scene where two guys walked out into gunfire and one of them was holding his hands up like a little kid pretending to have guns. Two seconds later, he was magically holding pistols!

I’m going to have to give this movie a C- because it failed to deliver with so many stars in the cast.

Radio

RadioWhen I first saw the commercials on TV for this movie, I knew it was one I wanted to see. It has high school sports, a coach known by everyone in a small town, and a good story. That usually makes for a good movie. I didn’t get the chance to see it in the theaters, so I bought the DVD as soon as it was released. Today I finally made some time to watch it.

Ed Harris played the head football coach who took “Radio” (Cuba Gooding Jr.) under his wing and gave him a chance to make something of his life. There was controversy created in the town because Radio was spending so much time around the high school kids and the coach stood up for him. Both Harris and Gooding played their parts well.

One thing that makes the movie great is that it is based on a true story. At the end of the movie they showed video clips of the real coach and also of Radio. It makes you feel good that there are people out there that give somoene like Radio a chance in life and really make a difference. It really is a movie everyone should watch.

I’ll have to give this movie an A-.

S.W.A.T.

S.W.A.T. (Widescreen Special Edition)Special Weapons and Tactics. There were plenty of each in this movie. It was great when I saw it in the theater this summer and great again watching the DVD.

It would be hard to make a bad movie with a cast full of big names such as Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and LL Cool J. S.W.A.T didn’t disappoint in any aspect as a movie. Not too many movies can keep you entertained for the entire film, but this plot did. There was always something going on, building up the story. You had your typical good cop/bad cop scenarios, terrorists, hostages, and millions of dollars at stake.

This is a very exciting movie, which I would recommend to anyone.

I’ll give this movie an A-.

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Widescreen Edition)Since I had the afternoon off I figured I’d watch a movie.

This movie was pretty good. The story was set back in the 1800s and is based on a comic book. It’s an action movie with a few twists and turns to keep you guessing where things are going.

The movie had some pretty good action and fight sequences. Nothing absolutely stunning, but better than your average movie. There were some special effects, but again, nothing absolutey awesome. Most of the clothing and surroundings were darker colors because of the Victorian time setting.

Sean Connery is still a great actor. Who wouldn’t want to have his voice? He was the only real big star in the movie although I recognized a few of the others. Would I watch this movie again or buy it? No, but I’m glad I watched it.

Overall, I’d give this movie a B-.

Belly Of The Beast

Belly of the BeastAnother Steven Seagal movie that doesn’t have much to brag about. Most of his movies over the past two or three years have been a joke. This one is no different. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a Seagal fan, but the last few films have been a waste.

I’ve noticed several scenes in his recent work that have voice overs not done by Seagal himself. They don’t even sound close to his voice! I’ve seen all of his movies, but you only need to hear him for a few minutes to know that these particular scenes are not him. I’m not sure if he decides to drop out of the project because he realizes it’s a waste of a movie or what.

Some of the fighting scenes are pretty decent, but are still way behind what other filmmakers are doing. They finally started using some of the wire tricks for people jumping and falling. It didn’t look very good though. The gun fights are pretty bad too. When the bullets hit walls, people, and other objects it doesn’t look real at all.

The movie still had it’s share of Seagal kicking some major ass, Buddhism, CIA, and Seagal saving the day.

I give this movie a C.

Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black PearlI watched Pirates of the Carribean last night. Great movie! I was apprehensive to go to the theaters and watch it, but I’m glad that my buddy Case bought the DVD for me as a Christmas gift.

The special effects, action, and story all meshed together well and the humor that was thrown into the movie was the right amount at the right times. Johnny Depp played the lead role of Captain Jack Sparrow better than anyone could have imagined. At parts he didn’t seem like a pirate, but he played the crazy, cracked out pirate perfectly. Orlando Bloom played the significant part of Jack Turner who would win the heart of Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley. What’s a good movie without a beautiful woman…right? Keira was really a happy surprise in the movie. I thought I recognized her, but after looking up her name, I’ve never seen her before. I think the part she played will get her a lot of big roles in the near future.

I don’t want to give away too much of the movie, so I’ll leave it like this.

Go out and rent this movie if you haven’t seen it.

American Wedding

American Wedding (Widescreen Extended Unrated Party Edition)Earlier tonight I watched American Wedding, which followed behind the first two American Pie movies. It was great and I’d definitely recommend it. I bought the unrated version of the DVD, but couldn’t tell you what was added because this was the first time I had seen the movie.

The bachelor party scene was pretty good…a lot of tits and ass. The chicks they use for the nudity scenes get better and better with each movie. There are plenty of scenes for a laugh and there was a good plot to the movie. I would have liked to see more of the girls in this one from the first two movies, since all the guys were back.

If you saw the first two movies, this is a must see. I wonder if they have a 4th movie planned.

Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition)I just got back from seeing “The Return of the King” a bit ago. It was a great movie, but a bit too long. It was about 3 and a half hours long, which should have been shortened. For the last half hour they kept fading away in scenes and everyone kept getting up, but then another scene started. They could have easily made this movie about 3 hours long like the first two and people would have been happy.

That being said…I really enjoyed the movie and I think I need to read the series of books again sometime soon. I really liked the adaption from the books to the movie. They changed a few things that I noticed in the story, but overall the three movies truly are a masterpiece! If you haven’t seen any of them…schedule a day where you have nothing else and watch the first two (extended edition) DVDs and then go see the 3rd movie. I’m not going to give any details on the movie because I don’t want to give it away for anyone who hasn’t seen them.

A few things I have to mention…Today I realized two things about the movie theater:

1) For some reason people think they can show up to a highly anticipated movie a few minutes before it starts and then actually find a good seat. Are they for real? We showed up a half hour early and still didn’t get the greatest seats.

2) How come during a movie you can notice someone walking out to get food or for the bathroom or you notice them coming back in, but you never see them go out and come back in? I guess I really pay attention to a movie. Does anyone else do this?
