Oh, We're At Your House

Last night was a good time. This weekend is Greek Festival here in Saginaw, which always attracts a crowd. I think it might have something to do with the beer tents. πŸ˜‰ James and I met up with some friends and it was “bottoms up” the rest of the night. The tent closes at 11:00 PM (way too early) so James and I headed downtown to the bars, hoping to meet up with a girl he’s been talking to.

First we checked out the bar they had claimed to be going to when they left the tent an hour earlier. No luck. James finally got ahold of her and we headed over to another bar. Wait in line. Once we finally get inside, she sees us and they are on their way home. Women! You just can’t win!

We made our way back to my house at around 1 AM. I grabbed a glass of water, but James insisted on having a beer. After several minutes in front of the TV, I noticed he was drifting off to sleep. “Hey James,” I said. His head pops up. “Oh, we’re back at your house already?” Wow! It’s probably a good thing we didn’t stay at the bars any longer. I had a pretty good headache when I woke up, but I’m feeling better already. Good times…

Time For A Design Change

It’s been over 6 months since I’ve been running my blog, which also means 6 months for the design. It’s time for a change! This design is getting old on my eyes and it has a few problems that have crept in recently. Most noticeable is the problem with the Google ads. They like to flash at the top of the page when the site is loading or when using the tabbed sidebar. I’m really not quite sure what the new design will be…hell, I don’t even have any cool ideas right now. I need a burst of creativity to hit before I get started, but I also want to get a new design as soon as possible. I’d set a goal for the end of the month, but I’m going to Sacramento for a week so that won’t work. I’ll say by June 14th a new design will be alive and kicking!

Speaking of new designs…my friend David Branson has become a WordPress user and will be working on a design of his own. Right now he’s using one of the stylesheets created for the WP community in place of boring default one. When you get a minute check out his site, Deacon Blue.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

I always thought it was “April showers bring May flowers.” It has rained almost every single day in May so far. It helps out the golf season in the long run, but prevents it from really kicking off. Thursday was my first time out and I shot a 49, which wasn’t too bad for not […]

A Night Of Poker

Played poker tonight with the guys over in Bay City. We played Hold’em, Omaha, Crazy Pineapple, and a few other random games. I ended up losing $10 or $15, but I had fun and that is what counts. Right? πŸ˜‰ I went out by winning the last game we played, so that made it all the better. I just couldn’t get into any type of rhythm with the cards, so that part of it kinda sucked.

Jeff and I were supposed to party, but when we heard no one was at the party by 11:30, we decided to keep playing cards. We made the right choice because now we won’t wake up with hangovers. πŸ™‚

Poker Champ

Played in a poker tournament tonight with some friends and a few people I had never met before. Thirteen people ended up playing. The entry was $20 per person and the top four places paid out. We played at two tables and I drew a spot at the table with 7 people.

I started out the night with some pretty good cards and won a few pots the first time we went around the table. In the 7th or 8th hand, someone called to go all-in and lost. She eneded up dealing the rest of the night, and she was pretty good at it. After the first trip around the table I didn’t get much for cards, but played a hand here and there. After awhile I started to get some very nice pocket cards, but could never get anything on the flop, so I had to keep folding. During the first two hours I think I had “pocket rockets” twice and won both times, which was nice.

During the end of the 2nd hour and for a good portion of the 3rd, I got pretty short stacked, so I played very tight. After watching everyone else play I knew I could outplay them, I just had to wait for my chances and let them make the mistakes. I was being very patient and eventually it started to pay off.

The Game

Last night was a great time! The beer started flowing at about 1:30p.m. and didn’t stop until sometimes around 11…I think. We got to Joe Louis Arena at about 2:15 and headed downstairs to the Olympia Club. Did you know that there is a private club underneath the ice? I didn’t either, but we had passes to get in. It was a sweet little bar and restaurant. In the bathroom there was a guy handing out towels to to dry your hands with. The towels were pretty expensive ones too. I tipped him a $1. Jeff and I had our picture taken outside the front door of the Club for proof that it exists. πŸ˜‰

We reserved a few tables for the first intermission and went up to watch the game. Our seats were pretty good. 5th row in the upper deck, just in front of the goal. The Wings played well for the first two periods, but allowed a goal late in the 2nd to tie it up. After that they came out flat and sucked it up in the 3rd, losing 5-2. There is nothing like being at a live hockey game. It’s so much better than watching on TV.

After the game we headed over to the new Hard Rock Cafe in Detroit, but the wait was going to be almost 2 hours for a table, so we had a drink and left. We ended up at a bar called the Gathering Place, for dinner and drinks. They had some awesome burgers and fries! My friend Lindsay came to eat with us and hang out for the rest of the night. We played a few games of bar shuffle board (I have no idea what the actual name is) and Ace and I were undefeated. We then headed over to a “uppity” bar called Dick O’ Dows. It was alright, but too high-class for me. Everyone was wearing nicer clothes and here we were in jerseys and hats from the game.

I fell asleep passed out on the ride back to Saginaw and went to bed as soon as I walked in the door. In fact, when I woke up this morning I was still drunk!

The Best Wake Up Call Ever

I hate when people call at the ass-crack of dawn and wake me up on a weekend. But every once in awhile it’s for a good reason. Today is one of those days. My phone rang once as I lay in bed thinking, “I’m gonna kill whoever that is” or “They better be calling for something good.” They left a voicemail and then my phone rang again. At this point I’m really getting angry. I didn’t get to bed until close to 4a.m. last night so I’m running on less than 6 hours of sleep. I better get up and answer it though.

My friend Jeff asks, “What are you doing today?” All I can think is, “Sleeping and then kicking your ass for waking me up!” Then he asks me if I want to go to the Red Wings game against the Avalanche. HELL YES I DO! I couldn’t think of a better way for a single guy to spend Valentine’s Day than drinking some beer with his buddies and watching the best rivalry in the NHL.

I was supposed to attend my first Red Wings game earlier this year, but then my Grandpa died, so we had to sell our tickets. I guess things really do happen for a reason. Now I get to see the best game available. It’s a good thing I didn’t go up north this weekend like a few friends wanted me to!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

A Good Day

Just a few updates…

My interview for the programming position at SVSU has been scheduled for next Wednesday afternoon. It can’t come soon enough.

I started on my income taxes today and it looks as if I’ll be getting another nice return this year. The money will be going straight towards extra payments on my student loans.

Casey, Hater, and I met for dinner tonight. We really haven’t hung out enough this school year.
