Congrats Heather!

My little sister Heather just got hired for a permanent substitute teaching job for the rest of the school year. She had graduated in December and there aren’t too many openings for teachers in the middle of the school year, so I’m really happy for her. Way to go Baba! Haha…”Baba” was my nickname for […]

I Never Forget

This morning I woke up and jumped out of bed. I ran over to check the calendar on the wall. Sure enough, today is January 30th. I forgot to call my sister on her 23rd birthday! FUCK! It was still before 10 a.m. and I knew she wouldn’t be awake yet because she had told me about plans to go to the bar. I finally called her at around 12:30 and of course she gave me the shit. Good thing she was just giving me a hard time and said it was no big deal. Phew! I guess I’m not the only one who doesn’t care about birthdays anymore. We get older every day of the year, not just one.

So in Heather’s honor, I’m baking brownies right now. When we used to live together, she used to bake and cook for me, so I figured I’d celebrate her birthday on my own. Or maybe that’s just an excuse so that I don’t feel all weird about baking. Either way…they are going to be good!

Over The Weekend

On Friday night, the family came down for Heather’s graduation. The speaker was dreadful, as expected, but the ceremony didn’t seem too long. After commencement, we headed off to Red Lobster for a little dinner celebration. I love that place. I had the Ultimate Feast and saved room for desert. It was some microwaved brownie thing with ice cream and chocolate syrup. Mmm mmm mmm!! I’ll usually have a Heineken with my dinner there, but I’m taking Tylenol 3 with codiene right now so that wouldn’t be such a good idea.

Let me tell you, this is one good drug. Not only does it wipe out the pain, but it makes everything else feel better too. I know why these things can be addicting. I’m also taking some Penicillin because my dentist thinks I might have an infection in my gums somewhere. The pain I was experiencing late last week is the worst I’ve ever felt in my life. At times I thought my teeth were falling out because it felt like someone hit me in the face with a hammer. The pain seems to be gone for the most part though. I’m trying just to get by with Ibuprofen and it’s working so far.

Heather and Steve woke me up on Saturday morning to go shopping for a digital camera that Steve was going to buy her for Christmas. I was sleeping the best I had in weeks, so I was not a happy camper. After checking out Best Buy and Circuit City, Heather had her mind made up on the Canon PowerShot SD300. She chose it mainly because I suggested getting a Canon and she loved the small size. It is one of their new models and looks pretty sweet. So we went back to my house and ordered it online with 2 day shipping so it would arrive for Christmas.

For the rest of the weekend I played poker and Xbox, when I should have been Christmas shopping. I’m not even done with half of my shopping and I only have until Thursday to finish up. I also need to renew my driver’s license this week before I have to pay late fees. It’ll be a slow week at work, so my stress level should be next to 0, making it easier to get motivated to get things done at night.

Lil Sis

Heather came down for a visit yesterday. She had to go to a class for her student teaching today so she drove down after school and spent the night. I cooked up some chicken fettuccine alfredo, garlic toast, and even baked some caramel brownies for desert. I figured cooking her dinner was the least I could do after all of the cooking she did for me during the two years we lived together.

We made a trip to the mall, where I found a couple of deals I couldn’t pass up. I bought a hooded sweatshirt for $12, t-shirt for $5.50, and a nice shirt I can wear to work for $12, all at Aeropostale. You wouldn’t have been able to pass up those deals either!

To cap off the night we watched ER. Does anyone else watch? There have only been two episodes so far this season, but they’ve both been excellent. I’ve been a fan for 3 or 4 years now and have bought (then sold after watching) the first two season DVD box sets to catch up on all of the old action. I don’t watch much TV, but my schedule for Thursday nights is always booked by the crew of County General Hospital. I think Carter and Abbey should get back together and after reading the blurb on NBC’s site about next weeks episode you never know…

Abby later asks Carter out for dinner and drinks in hopes of talking to him about his past problems.

Labor Day Weekend

I had an enjoyable weekend. On Friday Jere made the drive up to Rogers City with me. It took a little longer than normal because of all the traffic, but it wasn’t as bad as we expected. After relaxing a bit at Mom and Dad’s, it was out to the bars for a night with the boys. There weren’t many people out, but we had a good time. I finally made it home around 3 a.m.

Beat Me Up!

Happy 4th of July! It’s raining here in good old northern Michigan so it looks like we’ll be stuck in the house all day. Dad is deep frying a turkey and we might have a little Texas Hold’em tournament on Isaac’s new poker table. He built it with one of his friends and it’s pretty sweet. I’ll post a picture on Monday night. Other than that I’m going to relax.

Last night I went to the casino with Mom and Dad. I played $5-$10 Texas Hold’em for almost 9 hours. I’ve been on a streak of bad cards and bad beats for a few weeks now (playing online) and it didn’t stop last night. I held JJ twice and both times AA came on the flop. I flopped a straight and someone backdoored a full house. I finally hit a flush and the board showed trips when the turn and river brought two more 8s to give someone a full house. Each of these pots were well over $100.

The cards just weren’t on my side. I did flop a set when I held AA. I was getting reraised by someone across the table, so it was a nice pot. The table was loose, but I just couldn’t get the cards. Dad won about as much as I lost, so I guess you could say we came out even though we don’t share bankrolls. Oh well, it was fun, which is what counts, because I wasn’t playing with money I couldn’t afford to lose.
