Good Tequila

Yesterday my boys Tom and Jere came up for a visit. After grabbing some lunch, our first stop was the party store from some liquor. Jere and I decided to make some margaritas, so I picked up some 1800 Tequila. You just can’t go wrong getting the good stuff. It makes the margaritas so much better. We sat around watching football pretty much all day. Michigan played awesome against Indiana and Ohio State lost to Northwestern, so it was a good day in the Big Ten. You never have to really do much exciting with old friends to have a good time. There are things from childhood and high school that we always seem to bring up and will always remember.

Good Tequila…good times!

Naughty Fest 2004

Each year, Rogers City hosts the Nautical Festival. We look forward to it the whole summer, but when Monday morning rolls around, boy are we glad that it’s over. It’s a blast of a weekend, but it sure kicks your ass!

Basically we

  1. Drink during the day.
  2. Take a little time to eat dinner.
  3. Change into clothes for the night out.
  4. Head over to whoever’s house has a keg for the night.
  5. Drink until 10:00 p.m.
  6. Walk to the beer tent.
  7. Drink, dance, and mingle.
  8. Walk to Greka’s at 1:30 a.m.
  9. Drink and push your way through the crowd.
  10. Walk home or to an after party.
  11. Get home at 3:30 or 4.
  12. Wake up and REPEAT.

The Weeks Ahead

Over the past few days, I’ve been quiet on the site again. I’ve been busy studying for my test, which paid off. August is going to be a busy month for me, so I just wanted to warn everyone that I won’t have as much time for quality posting.

Tomorrow I’m heading up to Rogers City for the Nautical Festival. We like to call it the “Naughty Fest!” It’s pretty much non-stop drinking for 4 days. Pre-partying with a keg at someone’s house, walking to the beer tent, bullshitting all night, and dancing occassionally. After the tent closes, everyone walks to the bar for more drinking and bullshitting. It’s one of the funnest weekends of the year for me. Then on Monday I have a dentist appointment before I come back to Saginaw.

No big plans for the week after I come back, but on the 15th I’m heading to Philadelphia for a SQL training class. My friend Lindsay is going along for the trip, so it should be fun. We’ll get back to Michigan late on the 20th. Then on Sunday (22nd), I’m driving up north for a 3 day golfing trip. This might be my 2nd funnest couple of days of the year. (I like the word funnest!)

There are 20 guys that go and we play 36 holes a day at Boyne Highlands. They are great courses that are always in great shape. Each round of 18, we are paired up with different guys and there is always some type of competition with cash prizes. Every par 3 has a closest to the pin contest too. The highlight of the trip is the Hackers vs. Whackers match play. We play 10 guys to each team, and play 5 matches for a trophy and bragging rights. It’s just an all around great time.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the month.

Oh, We're At Your House

Last night was a good time. This weekend is Greek Festival here in Saginaw, which always attracts a crowd. I think it might have something to do with the beer tents. 😉 James and I met up with some friends and it was “bottoms up” the rest of the night. The tent closes at 11:00 PM (way too early) so James and I headed downtown to the bars, hoping to meet up with a girl he’s been talking to.

First we checked out the bar they had claimed to be going to when they left the tent an hour earlier. No luck. James finally got ahold of her and we headed over to another bar. Wait in line. Once we finally get inside, she sees us and they are on their way home. Women! You just can’t win!

We made our way back to my house at around 1 AM. I grabbed a glass of water, but James insisted on having a beer. After several minutes in front of the TV, I noticed he was drifting off to sleep. “Hey James,” I said. His head pops up. “Oh, we’re back at your house already?” Wow! It’s probably a good thing we didn’t stay at the bars any longer. I had a pretty good headache when I woke up, but I’m feeling better already. Good times…

This And That

Went out to an 80’s bar last night with a few friends and ended up staying until closing time. As a result I’m feeling a little “under the weather” today. The bar is pretty cool…they have a big screen TV that they play videos on while the song is playing, so you get the feeling that you’re back in the day, listening to some of the music we grew up on. They played some pretty good songs last night, but they also played a lot of garbage I had never heard of. The highlight of the night was when I asked a cutie for her number and got it. To tell you the truth, I don’t think I’ve ever asked for digits before. I also had another first last night…I’ve never tried to tie a cherry stem in a knot with my mouth, but did it on my first try.

The Game

Last night was a great time! The beer started flowing at about 1:30p.m. and didn’t stop until sometimes around 11…I think. We got to Joe Louis Arena at about 2:15 and headed downstairs to the Olympia Club. Did you know that there is a private club underneath the ice? I didn’t either, but we had passes to get in. It was a sweet little bar and restaurant. In the bathroom there was a guy handing out towels to to dry your hands with. The towels were pretty expensive ones too. I tipped him a $1. Jeff and I had our picture taken outside the front door of the Club for proof that it exists. 😉

We reserved a few tables for the first intermission and went up to watch the game. Our seats were pretty good. 5th row in the upper deck, just in front of the goal. The Wings played well for the first two periods, but allowed a goal late in the 2nd to tie it up. After that they came out flat and sucked it up in the 3rd, losing 5-2. There is nothing like being at a live hockey game. It’s so much better than watching on TV.

After the game we headed over to the new Hard Rock Cafe in Detroit, but the wait was going to be almost 2 hours for a table, so we had a drink and left. We ended up at a bar called the Gathering Place, for dinner and drinks. They had some awesome burgers and fries! My friend Lindsay came to eat with us and hang out for the rest of the night. We played a few games of bar shuffle board (I have no idea what the actual name is) and Ace and I were undefeated. We then headed over to a “uppity” bar called Dick O’ Dows. It was alright, but too high-class for me. Everyone was wearing nicer clothes and here we were in jerseys and hats from the game.

I fell asleep passed out on the ride back to Saginaw and went to bed as soon as I walked in the door. In fact, when I woke up this morning I was still drunk!

Still Alive

After the bad news yesterday I decided to get drunk. If you ask anyone that was with me last night, I think they would tell you that I succeeded. I must have drank enough beer to kill a small horse! On the way home, I was even lucky enough to hang my head out the window and puke on Heather’s car. I’m actually feeling pretty good today. It’s amazing what enough sleep and drinking water will do for a hangover. It was a fun time with good friends.

As far as the job…

Something better will come along. Things happen for a reason. It’s their loss, not mine.
