Complete Exhaustion

Being at a visitation and a funeral may make for the most exhausting two days a person can handle. I spent about 4-5 hours at the funeral home yesterday and then we were leaving the house at 8 this morning to head out to the church for the funeral. After the brunch, we were finally on the way home at about 1 o’clock. Talking to all those people and watching so many people crying takes a lot out of anyone. Heather, Mom, Dad, and I all took naps this afternoon. I actually woke up not too long ago after sleeping for 2 and a half hours! We’re all glad it’s over.

I missed another chance to see my first Red Wings game last night, but what can you do. These things aren’t planned. Luckily we were able to sell our tickets to my boss Dave. They saw a great game, which ended 3-3 after overtime. On TV, they said it was the best game of the year to watch. Missed out on going to see the Detroit Auto Show today too, so the weekend was really flipflopped!

A big storm is passing through Michigan today and tomorrow, which should make for a fun drive back to Saginaw. #2 Duke handled #3 Wake Forest pretty easily today, so maybe they’ll get some more first place votes or take over the #1 spot from UConn. Probably not, but I can wish.

Update: North Carolina beat UConn today, so the Blue Devils will definitely be #1 in the polls! πŸ˜€

It Begins Today

This post doesn’t really have any overall topic…so excuse the jumbled mess.

I said I was going to start getting in shape and it started today. Just got back from our basketball game for Saginaw Township. We won by about 5 points and are now 2-2 for the season. Everyone was pretty rusty from the holiday break, so we’re happy to pull out the win.

I’m typing on my new keyboard right now. I spilled juice on the old one a few days ago and last night it croaked on me. I didn’t feel like taking it apart, so I got a different one. It has a nice feel to the keys.

It was about 10 degrees today, but with the wind had to be close to below 0 for wind chill. Have I ever mentioned that I hate Michigan weather? I do have to say that I’m happy it held off for this long though. We’ve been pretty fortunate so far with the lack of snow and really cold days.

I’m sure everyone has heard about the lady in Ohio that “won” the 11-state lottery jackpot worth $162 million and the other lady who “lost” the winning ticket. It sounds like the woman who won has a bullet-proof story and I believe it. Hell, even if the other woman lost the ticket, it’s her own damn fault. If I found a winning lotto ticket, I’d be cashing it in ASAP!

The whole Pete Rose/Hall of Fame deal is starting back up again. I can’t put my opinion into better words than Rob Dibble’s article, “Pete Rose belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame. ” It’s a good article and Dibble makes a lot of good points.

Laundry is washing, food is in the oven, and I’m going to go play some XBOX while I wait for my grub. I’m going to bed early tonight for a change. Staying up until 1:30 and then being at work for 8:00 doesn’t work too well.

Drill Another One

Just got back from the dentist…AGAIN! I had another big cavity filled to use up the rest of my dental insurance for the year. I hate going to that place, but it’s my own damn fault. If I would take better care of my teeth, I wouldn’t have these problems. Yesterday I couldn’t eat on the left side of my mouth because of the two big cavities I had filled and today I can’t eat on the right side because of this one. It’s so much fun!

My brother’s team beat Boyne City last night 58-50, so it’s back to Cheboygan tonight for the championship game. They play against Cheboygan who beat St. Ignace yesterday. I think his team will be out matched (or should I say out coached?), but you never know in high school sports. At least it gets me out of the house and out of this town for a few hours.

Enjoying My Break

I’ve been enjoying my holiday break a great deal. At the same time, I miss being back in Saginaw at my apartment, but this is a nice little get-away. I’ve been sleeping in until at least 10 every morning and I didn’t even leave the house yesterday.

The big project yesterday was to get a page up with poker chip tricks tutorial, and so far the page is getting a lot of attention. According to my web hosting stats, almost 500 visitors stopped by my site yesterday, which is amazing since I’ve never had 200 visitors in a single day before. My brother Isaac helped me out by doing most of the camera work on the videos. We used my digital camera and it worked out pretty well. Once the videos were done I wanted to compress them a little bit and I removed the audio to save some space. I used a DivX 5.1.1 codec for the compression, which seems to be giving a couple of people problems viewing the videos. Later tonight I hope to work on getting another video format posted as a 2nd option.

Update: Those having problems are now able to view the videos after installing the DivX 5.1.1 codec, so I will not be adding a 2nd video option for now.

Today I went and contributed to the Ryan family college fund. Doc. Ryan is my dentist, who I’ve been visiting frequently since I got my own dental insurance. I think I’ve bought half the equipment in their office by now. They filled two big cavities on upper left teeth. The numbing is starting to wear off and I can feel some pain coming on. It’s funny how my teeth never hurt until after I go to the dentist, even though my chart shows red marks on just about every tooth. As a kid my teeth were always hurting, but over the past 5 years or so I really haven’t had any pain. Maybe I’m simply used to it.

In a few minutes we are off to Cheboygan for Isaac’s varsity basketball game. I’m not even quite sure who they play, but hopefully the Hurons will come out on top. It’s a mini tournament they are playing in, so I’ll be going back tomorrow for either the championship or the consolation game.

When I get home tonight I’ll be working on the poker chip trick videos like I mentioned earlier. Maybe Isaac will even want another ass-whoopin in March Madness. I’ve only lost one time so far in the game…any challengers?

Only A Handful

We only had 5 guys tonight and the other team had 8, but we won easily. I think we ended up winning 42-28 or something close to that. At the end of the game we were moving pretty slow.

It was the team chemistry that really made the difference tonight. Almost all of our shots were wide open (a lot of layups) and we played good defense. We kept passing the ball until someone either got a layup or a good look from inside of 10 feet. Even I didn’t hoist up too many threes, which is hard to believe. I think I had about 12 points for the game.

Now that we finally won a game (we’re 1-2), we get 2 weeks off for the holidays before the next one. Maybe I’ll get into a routine of running a few times a week like I’ve wanted to. Or maybe not.

A Piece Of History

Yesterday, my dad, brother, and I were a part of basketball history. We attended the BasketBowl at Ford Field, where Michigan State lost to Kentucky 79-74, in front of 78,129 people; the largest crowd in basketball history (at any level of play).

I bought the tickets as Christmas gifts to them and we had a good time. It was really something special to be a part of…we can now say that we were part of a world record crowd! You can see all of the pictures I took here.

Another Loss

We had our 2nd game for Basketball league tonight. We lost 54-51. I think I had 15 or maybe 17 points. We were down by 10 with under 3 minutes and made a nice little come back. I hit 2 three pointers in the last minute to pull within one and then fouled (they made both free throws), but we didn’t get a good shot off at the end of the game. We only had 6 guys, so I sat out less than a minute for the entire 40 minute game. I’m whooped!!

One of the refs made the absolute worst call I’ve ever seen. We were on offense and Bob (one of our big guys) was down low with the ball and it got knocked loose. As he was going for the ball he got pushed and when he was falling out of bounds he threw the ball off the knees of a guy on their team. The ref that was under the hoop called a foul on them (which was the right call), but the other ref called a Technical Foul on Bob!! Everyone was like…”What the fuck?!?!” The ref says to us…”I saw how you threw it at him.” Now, am I missing something there? Refs can call fouls for the way a person tries to save the ball? What’s next? If a guy has an ugly shot, can he get a Technical? If my shoe isn’t tied, I get a T? I mean, come on. It doens’t even make any sense, does it?

Oh well, it’s just a game and it isn’t going to impact my life.

I had a nice enjoyable day of vacation today. Woke up around 11, screwed around with my computer and the website for awhile and started some laundry. I created a backup of the installation on my computer since I just reinstalled everything the other day. Now if something goes wrong it will be a whole lot faster to get back up and running. I finally made my way into the shower and then went Christmas shopping. I’m just about done with everything for the year, except for one or two more things. I hope everyone likes their gifts because I went all out this year. After shopping I watched the extended DVD of The Two Towers. The added scenes really added a lot to the movie, but holy shit is it a long movie now (roughtly 3 hours and 40 minutes). Worth watching though!

I’m going to the BasketBowl tomorrow at Ford Field. Michigan State and Kentucky are playing the largest basketball game (college, pro, etc.) in history (in terms of attendance). There are supposed to be over 75,000 people there. I’m taking my Dad and brother Isaac to the game as a Christmas gift and mom will be shopping while we are gone. I’ll have a lot of pictures to post when I get back.

Duke Smoked Michigan State

The Blue Devils really put it to the Spartans tonight! What a great game to watch for a Duke fan (me). Jeff came over, we got some pizza, had a few beers, and watched the game on the big screen.

Only another week and a half and I’ll be at Ford Field for the biggest basketball game in history (over 75,000 tickets sold) when MSU and Kentucky play. I hope Kentucky puts it to them like Duke did tonight.
