Duke Beats UNC Again

Wow…WOW…what a great game! It was back and forth the whole game. I think the biggest lead either team had was 6 points. Duke came out on top 70-65 in one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports.

Luol Deng, coming off the worst game of his freshmen year, played phenomenal. He had a career high of 25 points on 12-16 shooting and took over at one point during the second half. Chris Duhon once again was the floor leader for the Blue Devils.

If you like college basketball and missed this game…you really missed something special!

Basketball Exam

Why are so many kids jumping straight from high school to the NBA these days? Is it because they are that good? For a few, yes, but for most, it is because they are too dumb to be able to be able to pass college classes and maintain their eligibility.

Today the University of Georgia released documents relating to NCAA rules violations by their basketball program. Assistant basketball coach Jim Harrick Jr. taught a Coaching Principles and Strategies of Basketball class in 2001. Many athletes (including some of his players) took the class. It’s not surprising that everyone in the class received an A when you read some of the following questions from the only exam that was given for the class:

How many players are allowed to play at one time on any one team in a regulation game?

How many halves are in a college basketball game?

How many points does a 3-point field goal account for in a Basketball Game?

In your opinion, who is the best Division I assistant coach in the country?

ESPN

All of these questions were multiple choice! Things like this make me love the Duke basketball program more and more. Duke is one of the toughest schools in the nation, but year after year, great players graduate. It’s a true testament of the kind of person that Coach Mike Krzyzewski is. He recruits good people that have basketball talent, unlike other schools who recruit basketball players and then cheat to get by the rules.

Playoff Win

We won the first playoff game tonight for basketball league by three points. It was a great game that went back and forth for both halves. I think the biggest lead of the game was six or eight points. At one point during the game, someone on their team yelled out, “We’re losing to a bunch of white boys.” That fired us up a little bit.

We were up by one with about a minute to go and managed to waste 40 more seconds by spreading the court. They had to foul us a few times to put us in the bonus. They ended up fouling me for the bonus and I hit both free throws. Clutch! They came down the court and got a good shot off, but I snagged the rebound. GAME OVER! Everyone on our team really played a great game.

On to the next round…

Terrific Tuesday

It was a good day today. I don’t feel like typing much, so I’m going to keep this short.

I had a 30 minute phone interview for a programmer/analyst position in Kalamazoo. I think it went pretty well. My new Norelco came in and I can’t wait to try it tomorrow morning. I called M that I met at the bar the other night. We had a nice little chat and are planning to go out. I’m pretty excited since I never go on dates! We lost our basketball game again in the last few minutes. Not sure when playoffs start.

I’m done for the night…

This And That

Went out to an 80’s bar last night with a few friends and ended up staying until closing time. As a result I’m feeling a little “under the weather” today. The bar is pretty cool…they have a big screen TV that they play videos on while the song is playing, so you get the feeling that you’re back in the day, listening to some of the music we grew up on. They played some pretty good songs last night, but they also played a lot of garbage I had never heard of. The highlight of the night was when I asked a cutie for her number and got it. To tell you the truth, I don’t think I’ve ever asked for digits before. I also had another first last night…I’ve never tried to tie a cherry stem in a knot with my mouth, but did it on my first try.

Stat Line

Finger JamAbout 20 points, 8+ rebounds, 5+ blocks, and 5+ steals to go along with 5+ turnovers and bad defense in the last few minutes. It’s hard to do it all I guess. We lost in overtime by one or two points. The refs are just so inconsistent in this league. At one end of the court the guy calls a good game, but then you play on the other end in the 2nd half and nothing seems to be a foul. It was a well played game by both teams though. I had some pretty sweet blocks against guys 4-6 inches taller than me, which felt good and I jammed a finger going for a rebound. Can you tell which one? Click the picture for the full size photo.

Hack Attack

I felt like I just got done playing in a Gus Macker. The team we played didn’t do anything but reach in the whole game and there was only one ref so he didn’t see much. My arms are red from all the smacks they took. They only had 5 players, but ended up with like 22 fouls. Can you explain to me how a few people didn’t foul out? We won by about 6 points, but it was another ugly game and I played like shit!

Instant Classic

Duke vs. North Carolina.

The greatest rivalry in college basketball. Tonight’s game was at North Carolina and it was an awesome game. The Duke Blue Devils will be driving back home to Durham, North Carolina as a team that has won 16 straight games and holds onto the #1 ranking in the country. It was a great game to watch and will be an ESPN Instant Classic. The final score ended up 83-81, but you had to see the game to know how great it really was.

GO DUKE!

On Fire

We had another game for basketball league tonight. The opposing team scored 25 points and yours truly had 21 himself. We beat them 32-25. As a team we played pretty horrible, as you can tell by the lack of scoring by the rest of the team. But that is what a superstar is for…right? πŸ˜‰ My shot was dead on tonight and it felt great. I hit a couple of threes (one for a 4 point play), made 4-5 free throws and hit a sweet jumper when I was on a fast-break with no help. I won’t do any talking during the game, but after the game (like right now) is another story.

The team we played was tied with us for first place, so I think we now have sole possesion of it and are on a 5 game winning streak. In the 2nd half of the game, they changed to a man-to-man defense and that really threw us off. We only ended up scoring 9 points in the 2nd half, but held them also. If it had come down to free-throws at the end of the game, we would have lost. We were in the bonus with 5 minutes left and never hit the front end of a one-and-one.

Mark another one in the win column.

4 Game Winning Streak

Today we finally played a good game in basketball league. We beat a team (by about 14) that we barely lost to in the first half of the season. We really shot well and took good shots.

My shot finally came around as I stepped in closer to the basket and made a few drives to the hole. I had at least 20 of our 54 or so points. Felt good to finally drill some shots.

On a side note: This weather is killing me. We have more snow than we probably got all of last year. The roads were super slick tonight. I slid right through a stop light and missed my turn. Good thing it was a green light and not red, because that would have been a nice crash.
