Michigan is Excited about the Detroit Tigers

The state of Michigan is excited about baseball for the first time in over a decade. Everywhere I go people are talking about the Detroit Tigers. In fact, just like night at Hooters I was wearing a Tigers hat and a random guy asked me if they were going to win game 1 of the ALCS against the Oakland Athletics. When two random people strike up a conversation you know there is excitement in the air.

I have to say that I really like their chances of going all the way. Beating up on a team like the New York Yankees can really boost the confidence of a team which lost their last 5 games of the regular season, which ended up costing them home field advantage in the first round (and now 2nd round as well). The Yankees were supposed to have the best offensive lineup in the history of baseball. “Murderer’s Row and Cano” is what they were being called by the press. Well, they got murdered. Detroit’s pitching shutdown the $200,000,000 lineup.

If the Tigers can keep the momentum going against the A’s I’m going to do everything I can to get tickets to the World Series. Something like this doesn’t come around too often.

Detroit Tigers Game

Comerica ParkYesterday I went to see the Detroit Tigers play the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park. The Tigers came away the winners by a final score of 18-1. Out of the eight innings the came up to the plate, Detroit scored in seven of those with a home run coming in each of the first four innings.

Before the game there was a Youth Clinic on the field, so all fans were allowed to walk around and see some of the players up close. I was amazed at how perfect the grass on the field was. I wished I had brought my pitching wedge with me to hit a few over the fences. The grass was immaculate.

Biggest Choke Ever!

I’m never been a baseball fan, but I had to stay up tonight and watch the New York Yankees lose to the Boston Red Sox after being up 3-0 in the series. Never has a team went up 3-0 in the ALCS and then lost the next three games. The Yankees did. Never has a team lost a series after being up 3-0. The Yankees did. Yankee hater I am.

Three games in the series were among the longest ever in MLB playoff history and Boston battled to win two of those in extra innings. Boston outplayed New York in every aspect of game 7 and deserved the series win. The curse is over and we never have to hear about it again. It’s on to the World Series for the Red Sox.
