Cashed Out

Wow, what a crazy few days it’s been in the poker world. Lots of great posts out there about the new legislation/laws/whatever you want to call it. I won’t even try to explain any of it here. I will give my opinion though…I think the government is making a big mistake and it sucks.

I’ve cashed my bankroll out of the poker sites and also cashed everything out of Neteller. I rarely play poker anymore and I don’t feel like fighting to get my money back later, so I’m taking my money and running for now. I’ll keep my eye on the situation, but to tell you the truth I don’t think it’s really going to affect me much. I don’t make time for poker like I used to. Too many other things in life I’d rather be doing than sitting in front of my computer getting kicked in the balls on the river by a 2 out donkey draw.

Soaring

I also took a trip this weekend to the Soaring Eagle Casino so I could play some poker with my dear ol’ brother. I decided to take a different route, as I tried out the 6/12 game for the first time in my life. It is quite a bit different, as the players up there have more common sense, and your good plays actually stand up.

I bought in at around 11:30 a.m. or so and saw my Nick over at the 3/6 table and gave him a wave. I purchased 200 in chips because I figured I should get twice as many as I get at 3/6, and I was right. After about an hour or so, I was down to about 60, still getting used to the more experienced players. As the time passed, I had gotten my stack back up to about even, when my mom and my sister gave us their best, as they had to catch the bus back up North. This must have been around 3:00 p.m.

Another Runner Up

Party Poker 2nd PlaceAnother 2nd place finish in a $50+$5 on Party Poker. Those are my new favorite tournaments. The buyin attracts a little better crowd of poker players and the size seems to work well for my game. This one had 530 people and paid $3975 for 2nd place! (Click the photo for a larger view)

I didn’t get much to play throughout the tournament, so I was careful to pick my spots. AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK, and AQ were a combined 22 for 23 which always helps! I was under the average chip stack during the entire tournament and even survived a big storm that rolled through the area. Lights were flickering, but my power stayed on. The player I wanted to get heads up against came through. He had me out chipped about 3-1, but I was confident I could pick a few spots and take him. I had him with 33 against K9, but a 9 on the flop ended it. All you can do is go in with the best hand in a situation like that. Once of these days I’ll win one of these tournaments, but I’m not going to complain about taking the 2nd place prize money. This surpasses the 2nd place a couple of weeks ago for my biggest cash to date.

A rebuilding night

Once again this weekend, I went to the casino for a few hours to play some poker and hang out with friends. Thursday night I drove over for about three hours and lost $160 very quickly, but won it all back and walked away $50 ahead, but not from poker. I played roulette for the very first time and walked away from the table with $250. Friday night I went back up and won $100 at poker and $20 at roulette. Saturday night I went with a couple of friends who only wanted to stay for about an hour, so I decided not to play poker because I knew the list would be too long and I’d never even get to play, so I played roulette. I couldn’t hit a damn thing, I was down $220. I knew I had to play poker for a little while on Sunday and try to win some of that $220 back, so I went and tried my luck, but blew around $150 before I even made it to the poker table.

Back to limit

Lately I’ve been trying to build my bankroll back up after a horrible streak of bad beats online in the past week or two. I was playing .25/.50 no-limit hold ’em on Full Tilt, but was getting a pretty bad run. After visiting the casino these past weekends, I decided to try my luck at limit hold ’em again, playing mostly 1/2 tables. It’s worked pretty well so far, as I’ve won money each time I’ve sat down so far. Even if I play for 10 minutes between classes, I usually win $5-10, which is nice. So far I’m up about $120 in the past 3-4 days, and only played a total of about three hours.

I also played a $50+5 this weekend and finished just inside the bubble, 8th place for $99, which was pretty damn good considering I was down to 150 chips less than an hour into the tournament, so it was quite the comeback. I made a stupid play after I was reraised preflop when I had JJ, so I called. The flop came down all rags, but pairing the board, so I bet and was reraised all-in, I had a feeling I was beat, but called anyways, and sure enough he had KK. That was the beat that took me down to 150, but I made it to the final, and won some money, so I can’t be completely disappointed.

Up 10K

No poker played tonight, but I had to post because it was one year ago today that I started playing on Party Poker. It was also the day I started to keep track of my wins/losses on a daily basis. Over the last twelve months I’m about $10,600 ahead with $5,550 coming from poker cash games and tournaments. The other $5,050 comes from deposit bonuses. I’m more than happy to be ahead 10K, but not too happy that it’s nearly 50/50 for poker and bonuses. With that many hours at the tables I’d hope to be up more than I am. I’ve had some streaks of really bad play which have cost me. I’ve taken nearly $8,000 out of my bankroll for what I call “poker paydays” and this is a great feeling because I’ve been able to pay off my student loans and will have my auto loan (which is less than 7 months old) paid off in less than a month. I’m making money from a game, a hobby.

My goal for the next three months is to make $3,000 at the tables. I just jinxed myself. Each time I’ve made goals in the past, I’ve gone on a losing streak. This time I’ll have better focus and win.

Lost and Found

Any regular readers (are there actually any?) would now that I haven’t posted much over the last month and a half. I started to feel as if I was lost when I played poker. Limit was becoming too much of a grind and it was getting extremely boring. I was still playing, just not having much fun when I did. As a result I wasn’t playing as well as I know I can.

During this time I’ve experimented with different games and I’ve actually had some some pretty good success in a few areas. I’ve tried playing a few more tournaments, even making some small cashes in a few. I’ve played some $3/6 and I even play $5/10 6-max at my new favorite site. Yes, the games are this soft! No, I will not tell you where. There aren’t many players at this site and I don’t need 50 poker bloggers (so maybe 2 bloggers actually read me) taking over my cash cow. I’ve tilted away $600 in two hours, then went to hit golf balls to cool off. When I came back to play, I won it all back and then some more. My 6-max game has improved quite a bit. I’ve also jumped into some of the lower no-limit tables to spice things up. I’ve been winning there. Not a whole lot, but I’m winning.

Recently I’ve also jumped into heads up SNGs and I just love them! I’ve played somewhere between 15 to 20 and have only lost 3 or 4. Again, the players at this site are pretty weak. Just the other day I won 8 HU SNGs in a row. I started out playing for $20 and worked my way up to $100. It was a nice $600+ day for my bankroll. Not only are these challenging and good for your no-limit game, but they are a blast to play. When I’m playing one, I don’t play any other games and my attention is entirely on the other player. It’s pretty easy to push people around. Sooner or later they’ll get sick of you continuously betting/raising and they’ll bluff with garbage at the wrong time.

So, to sum it up, I’m back on track. My bankroll is doing great and I’m having fun playing poker again. I might have to start taking paydays out of my poker winnings.

Bonus Stars

Throughout the week Poker Stars is giving double FPP during from 3-4 and 10-11 each night. Just a week or two ago, I received a $120 deposit bonus and figured this would be a perfect time to work it off. I played 5 tables for an hour last night, ranging from $2/4 down to $0.50/1. Basically just trying to play as many hands as possible for the free cash. I cleared 1/3 of the required FPP and made about $20 at the tables as well. Should have been more, but I took some bluffs too far. My current bankroll is over $4,100 and since I started keeping track in September, I’ve pulled in about $6,000 from poker. I love the Internet!
