Custom Header Images

Tonight I decided to look through my golf pictures and see what I could use to personalize the header images. The background image (the sand trap) was taken during a practice round of the 35th Ryder Cup held at Oakland Hills Country Club in 2005. I snapped the picture before Chad Campbell got to his ball.

The insert picture was taken at the 2007 Hackers Whackers – McDuff Open. We are standing behind the 18th green on The Heather golf course at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, MI.

New Primary Rough Design

If you are reading this at primaryrough.com you’re looking at a new design. I thought I’d freshen up the place with a new theme. The base design is a free WordPress theme from Templatextreme. I fixed a few things up and made a few modifications otherwise it looks the same as the theme you can download from their site. Hopefully in the future I will use my own personal custom photos.

What do you think of the new look?

50 Isn't So Bad

Yesterday’s weather turned out to be decent for 50 degrees. The wind was almost non-existent and the sun was shining. I ended up only having to wear a light pullover in addition to my work pants and polo.

I started off the round with a good drive in the fairway, which is rare, but missed the green from inside 100 yards and ended up with a bogey. On the next two holes I nearly missed the ball on my tee shots and they ended up about 30 yards from the tee box. I took triple and double bogeys. Six over through three holes is not a good start when I have a handicap of 6 in the league. I kind of settled down after that with 2 pars and then 4 bogeys to shoot a 45 on the par 35 course. Not a great round, but nothing horrible either.

I’m definitely getting to the range in the next couple of days to work on my driver and pitch shots. Should have my new clubs around the middle of next week, but they can’t come soon enough!

Taking Time Off

I’ve taken way too much time off from posting here at Primary Rough. I seemed to have started the blog and only kept at it for a couple of weeks. I never meant to post daily, but I sure meant to post more than once ever couple of months!

Speaking of time off, it looks like taking some time away from the golf course can really help a player’s game. Tiger Woods went 24 days without swinging a club and then won his first tournament of the year last week at the Buick Invitational. Retief Goosen went 5 weeks without touching a golf club and is tied for the lead in Dubai right now.

As a weekend hacker during the Michigan summers I’ve found that I sometimes play my best game after taking a week off from golf. Golf is such a mental game that I think it really helps to get away now and then to clear our heads. Twenty-four days or 5 weeks are probably too long for us normal folk, but for professionals who play every day it’s probably right on par. I know it takes me a couple of weeks after the winter to find my swing again.

Primary Rough Goes Live

Today Primary Rough is being announced. This golf blog is part of the NICKED Up network of sites, which are all run by me, Nick Momrik.

My hope is for Primary Rough to be a source on the latest golf news. The site will have news on players, equipment, tournaments, and anything else. I’m a big fan of Tiger Woods, so when he makes headlines, you’ll likely find something here as well.

If you’ve used any of the products that get posted to the site, please leave comments with your thoughts and experiences. If you have any suggestions for the site please send me a message using the contact form. Keep in in the fairway…
