Yesterday while I was shopping for dress pants and shirts, the lady in the store called Heather my wife. We’re pretty used to it by now, but it’s always good for a quick laugh. I’m not even sure if I could count how many times it has happened. Maybe people think that because we are roughly the same age and get along so well. Come on though, all you have to do is look at us and you can tell we are related!
It happened last year too when we were shopping for a washer and dryer for our apartment. The lady asked if we had a little kid, because of the buzzer on the washer. I guess some people don’t want to wake up their babies. That time was probably the funniest because we then told the lady that we were brother and sister. I love making someone feel like a jackass!
As you can probably tell from my posts this weekend, I’ve been messing/hacking with my site. I believe I made at least 3 posts related to web design. It really was a “geek” weekend for me.
On Saturday, I didn’t crawl out of bed until 1:30, which may be a new record. I never showered or changed my clothes the whole day actually. Woke up in the same clothes today that I fell asleep in Friday night. That might be another first for me. Showering is how I usually wake up for the day, but somehow I didn’t need it yesterday. I spent most of Saturday sitting right here at my computer, hacking code for WordPress, installing TFS Statistics, and tweaking other things on my site. Late that night I finally decided to watch a movie.
Today I’ve been busy doing laundry, taking out the garbage, and a few other things around the house. After Heather came back from the weekend at Steve’s we made a trip down to Prime Outlets in Birch Run for some shopping. I bought 2 pair of pants and 2 shirts from Haggar. I love that wrinkle free shit. Also made a stop at some sock store to look for king size socks. It’s not easy finding socks that fit my size 14 feet! I bought two more shirts and a cool brown corduroy jacket ($20) at Aéropostale.
That about sums up my excitement for the weekend.
I’ve created a page to explain how I do some of the hacks on my weblog. All of the hacks are modifications to hacks written by someone else. Just my way of giving back to the WP community.
Everything has been moved over the to WordPress Plugin Repository. See my list of plugins.
Special Weapons and Tactics. There were plenty of each in this movie. It was great when I saw it in the theater this summer and great again watching the DVD.
It would be hard to make a bad movie with a cast full of big names such as Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, Michelle Rodriguez, and LL Cool J. S.W.A.T didn’t disappoint in any aspect as a movie. Not too many movies can keep you entertained for the entire film, but this plot did. There was always something going on, building up the story. You had your typical good cop/bad cop scenarios, terrorists, hostages, and millions of dollars at stake.
This is a very exciting movie, which I would recommend to anyone.
I’ll give this movie an A-.
I’ve had custom error pages on my site since it started, but today I added an awesome feature. It was great that the user was getting an error page with the same look and feel as my site, but I wasn’t getting any information from it.
I’ve added some PHP scripting so that whenever someone gets one of my error pages, I am sent an email with the URL they were trying to access, the referring page that has the broken link, time, date, visitor’s IP address. Now I’ll be able to track down broken URLs and resolve them.
Mr Bob’s Web Design has a great code generator and instructions for setting this up. When you do step 2, make sure to remove any blank lines at the end of functions.inc.php after pasting the code into it. If you don’t, you will get an error message on your error pages that the headers have already been sent.
I just finished installing TFS Statistics on my web site. The configuration was a breeze and the instructions were top notch for the installation.
From their website:
TFS is a Web statistics package written in PHP.
Features: Web site statistics by day, month, year, OS, browser, bots/spiders, referrers, last visitors, last bots/spiders, page hits, visitors by country, average visitors/bots and % function on all counters. In the last bots/spiders and last vistors overview you can click a link so you can see what pages are requested by the visitor, spider, or bot. Referrers are listed by domain if you click on the domain you will see the pages where your site is listed. You can also exclude ip adresses, so they will not show up in your statistics.
I did run into a conflict between their code and WordPress. I was getting “is not a valid MySQL-Link resource” error messages from some of the WP queries, but the errors went away when I turned off the TFS includes. I ended up finding a fix for the problem and documented it on their forums.
So far it looks like a great package that gives me all of the information that I want about the visitors to my site.
Today we finally played a good game in basketball league. We beat a team (by about 14) that we barely lost to in the first half of the season. We really shot well and took good shots.
My shot finally came around as I stepped in closer to the basket and made a few drives to the hole. I had at least 20 of our 54 or so points. Felt good to finally drill some shots.
On a side note: This weather is killing me. We have more snow than we probably got all of last year. The roads were super slick tonight. I slid right through a stop light and missed my turn. Good thing it was a green light and not red, because that would have been a nice crash.
I’ve always said that I would like to have a house on a golf course. Today I questioned myself…why?
The view would be awesome, but other than that, there really aren’t any great advantages I can think of. The property around a “nice” golf course is over priced because of the location. You can’t walk out and play a few holes anytime you want. You have limited use of your yard for obvious reasons. You have to put up with people walking on your property to find their golf balls. Your children will be in danger of golf balls and foul language.
Maybe it would make for a nice retirement/summer home.
Each week, The Friday 5 site has a set of questions, which I’ll be using as a post here. Just something to look forward to once a week.
At this moment, what is your favorite…
-“Hey Ya” by OutKast
-Chiken Philly sub from Charley’s Steakery
- …tv show?
-Home cooking (on a long term basis)
-Gasoline or a fresh lit match (on a short term basis)
-“Free your mind” from The Matrix
How about you?
Just a few updates…
My interview for the programming position at SVSU has been scheduled for next Wednesday afternoon. It can’t come soon enough.
I started on my income taxes today and it looks as if I’ll be getting another nice return this year. The money will be going straight towards extra payments on my student loans.
Casey, Hater, and I met for dinner tonight. We really haven’t hung out enough this school year.
