Fresh Build

I just finished rebuilding my computer. For the non-geeks, this means I erased everything on my computer and reinstalled Windows and all of the software. I only managed to forget to back up one thing, but it was a pretty big one. I forgot to make a copy of my poker history files, so I lost the last 5 months of statistics and record of my play. That’s over 50,000 hands of poker played online. Oh well, there’s nothing I can do about it now.

I hadn’t rebuilt my computer since I bought it 13 months ago, so it was well overdue. Over the past few months problems have been creeping up here and there, but that’s all gone now. I love working with a fresh install.

I Lost Over 50,000 Hands in One Day

I just lost over 50,000 hands of poker. I’m in the process of rebuilding my computer tonight and just realized that I forgot to backup the data from Poker Tracker. FUCK! I’ve lost all of the hand histories and accompanying stats for the past 5 months. FUCK!

I guess it’s a fresh start. A fresh start with Poker Tracker Guide (which I purchased last night) to show me the way. Earlier in the week I had made a decision for a fresh poker start anyways.

On Monday night I lost another $150 playing $1/2 and I finally realized what was influencing my play. Ever since I had set goals to get my bankroll to a particular level my play had gone downhill. I was constantly thinking about my bankroll. Each play I made at the tables was to build the bankroll. I stopped playing poker and started playing “build the bankroll.”

My first post here at 2 Hole Cards was on October 2nd. It was the day I decided to get serious about my poker game. I started at the $0.5/1 tables on Party Poker and did well. I quickly moved up to $1/2 and then to $2/4, winning at each level. After a short winning period at $2/4 I set a goal and that’s where it all changed. My game changed and so did my bankroll, but not for the better.

Definitely time for a change. Tomorrow I’m cashing out most of my bankroll and putting it away for a down payment on my new vehicle, which will be purchased in less than 3 weeks. My $2000 bankroll will become $300, which is 300 BB at $0.5/1. Yes, I’m moving back down to the lowest limit that Party offers.

I’m starting over. Wish me luck well.

Death of a Salesman

After dealing with car salesmen, I almost wish for the death of a few. I don’t know if I’ve ever dealt with a profession which is shadier than dealing with car salesmen. These guys twist words and make up more lies than I ever could. They’re trying to rip us off in the first place…isn’t that bad enough?

Right now I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in my driveway as an extended test drive. I have no intention to buy this vehicle, but I thought I’d take some free gas and the 4 wheel drive for a day. I actually drove two Grand Cherokee today and I really like them. Since the Chevy TrailBlazers and GMC Envoys are selling for much more than they are worth in the past few weeks I’ve had to start looking at other SUVs. I may have found one with the Jeep. It’s a really nice ride. If I could find a black or gray 2003 in my price range, someone may get a sale.

A Service to Replace all Others

Yesterday I discussed my struggles to find a service for links and feeds. Today I found one. My Yahoo!

Not only can I store all of my links/bookmarks and keep track of feeds, but there’s a ton of other information. In your My Yahoo! account you can create several different pages. I’ve created a total of four pages so far. My first page is called Main and has just a ton of information. In the left column I have all of my bookmarks broken down into categories. The second column starts of with my Yahoo! calendar which I also started to use today. It’s a great service for birthday reminders, appointments, and scheduling in general. Below the calendar I have a scoreboard of my favorite pro and college teams. Under the scoreboard I have content modules for Weather, Package Tracker, Yellow Pages, Maps, and Hot Jobs. Finally, a wide column along the right starts off with feeds for ESPN and CNet News. Below those feeds are TV listings for my 6 main channels, movie showtimes in the area, and the white pages.

In addition to this main page I have three other My Yahoo! pages that are all accessed by the click of a button. Page 2, titled Personal Blogs, and page 3, titled Poker Blogs, both containing feeds in their respective categories. The 4th and final page is Web Tools, which contains feeds for sites such as the WordPress development blog and Weblog Tools Collection.

I set out looking for a service to manage bookmarks and feeds, but I found so much more. My Yahoo! is a great service. Beat that Google!

Pluck This

I justed tested out Pluck, a service which manages your links and feeds. They have a really nice piece of software that integrates with IE for reading feeds and managing everything, but it’s only for IE. Their web interface blows. Pluck shows promise, but until they can come up with something for Firefox, I don’t see them moving forward. Anyone know of a good online service to manage both bookmarks and feeds?

I want to easily be able to add/delete/update/organize my list of links and feeds. The service must be able to distinguish an updated feed from an old one. It needs to be free. I need to be able to set up a page with this service to be the home page in my browsers at multiple locations and also be able to access it from any Internet connection.

I’ve been using MyBookmarks for my links and Bloglines for my feeds, but I shouldn’t have to use multiple services for things that are so similar. For some reason I can’t access Bloglines from work, so my two service solution doesn’t even work.

Even if it’s something I can install on my own server that interacts with MySQL that would work too. In fact, it might be better because then I don’t have to worry about a service going down. If it’s down, it’s my problem.

All I know is I need something!
