Detroit Tigers – 2006 World Series

After sweeping the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS the Detroit Tigers are headed to the World Series for the first time in 22 years. The Tigers are a team with 12 losing seasons in a row coming into this year and nobody gave them a chance. Jim Leyland and his “Cardiac Cats” have proved everyone wrong.

After failing to beat the Kansas City Royals once in the final three games of the regular season, and losing the Central division title, I didn’t think the Tigers had a chance. They came back from one game down to win three in a row against the Yankees and haven’t lost since.

The Detroit Tigers are going to the World Series. Detroit Tigers…World Series. Those words normally don’t go together. I’m not a big baseball fan, but I’ve attended two games already this year and next Sunday will be my third game of the year. Last night during the game, I hopped on eBay and bought 4 tickets to game 2 of the 2006 World Series. It came down to $468.50 for each ticket, but the price of seats is only going to get higher as the weekend approaches. Some people might think I’m nuts, but guess what…I’m going to the World Series to watch the Tigers!

Somebody pinch me…

Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition and Xbox 360

Over the past few days I installed Windows Media Center Edition on my PC and configured it to connect to my Xbox 360. Let me tell you, this is one slick system for streaming media to your TV. The Xbox 360 works as an extender for the Media Center and can be set to access any of the pictures, music, or videos you have on your computer.

When I started looking into this, I was surprised to find out that Microsoft doesn’t even sell Windows Media Center Edition. The only legal way to get it is by purchasing a new computer which has it installed. I think this is a huge marketing mistake by Microsoft.

I think another mistake is the fact that the Xbox 360 only supports a few video types. Transcode 360 is a free piece of software you can download to get around this limitation though. It allows you to stream a wide range of video formats from MCE to the Xbox 360 by converting a file on-the-fly as you watch it. The speed and quality is excellent.

I did have some trouble installing the Xbox 360 Media Center Extender software on my computer, but that’s probably because of the way I installed MCE in the first place. In order to get the software installed, I had to extract all of the files out of the installation exe, then extract again out of one of the update files. From there I tried to install updates one by one until I found the errors and could download the missing updates. It was a real pain in the ass, but it’s working great now.

I'm Healthy: My Fitness and Diet Journey

Back in February, I made a decision to change my life. My weight was up to 199.5 pounds and I wasn’t happy. I had never tipped the scales at over 200 and didn’t plan on seeing if I could do it. I started exercising on a regular basis and eating completely different.

In a little over 3 months I lost 20 pounds. I continued to my routines and eventually my weight dropped as low as 173 pounds. Around the end of July and through August I was golfing more than ever, so my exercise routine fell off, but my weight stayed around 175 the whole time.

Card Golf

I just wrote up a review over at Primary Rough of a new card game called Card Golf. It’s a game that could really be interesting when gambling is applied. While looking through their site I found this… “Card Golf is not a drinking game. The game requires math, which is difficult to compute when […]

Michigan is Excited about the Detroit Tigers

The state of Michigan is excited about baseball for the first time in over a decade. Everywhere I go people are talking about the Detroit Tigers. In fact, just like night at Hooters I was wearing a Tigers hat and a random guy asked me if they were going to win game 1 of the ALCS against the Oakland Athletics. When two random people strike up a conversation you know there is excitement in the air.

I have to say that I really like their chances of going all the way. Beating up on a team like the New York Yankees can really boost the confidence of a team which lost their last 5 games of the regular season, which ended up costing them home field advantage in the first round (and now 2nd round as well). The Yankees were supposed to have the best offensive lineup in the history of baseball. “Murderer’s Row and Cano” is what they were being called by the press. Well, they got murdered. Detroit’s pitching shutdown the $200,000,000 lineup.

If the Tigers can keep the momentum going against the A’s I’m going to do everything I can to get tickets to the World Series. Something like this doesn’t come around too often.
