Kill Bill: Volume 2

Kill Bill, Volume 2The follow up to Volume 1

and the end of the Kill Bill series. I liked the first movie much better and for quite a few reasons.

Volume 2 was missing all of the fight scenes that made Volume 1 stand out. There were a few short action sequences, but only enough to wet your appetite. Way too much talking, background information, and scenes that had no place in the movie. I was actually quite bored during portions of the movie, so saying I was disappointed would be an understatement.

The movie starts with “The Bride” (Uma Thurman) riding in a car, giving a short recap of the events in the first installment. The movie then goes on to show exactly what happened at the church. We also find out who Bill is. The rest of the movie is the journey “The Bride” takes to kill Bill. About the only thing that kept the movie playing was my need to see her finish the job.

If you’ve seen the first movie, you have to see this one simply to get the whole story. If you haven’t seen Volume 1, don’t waste your time with either volume. I’ll be generous and give this movie a C.

John Daly Deserves The Ryder Cup

Simply put, the guy is fun to watch. The normal hacker can really relate to the guy, because he’s down to earth. He doesn’t care what people think of him and nothing scares him either. He’s one of the few golfers that you’ll see smoking a cigarette (or several) on TV during a round. He doesn’t lift weights or workout to improve his game, but he’s still one of the longest and most accurate drivers on tour.

Daly is playing the best golf of his life over the last few months. Every time I turn around, he’s on TV. Not only can he drive the ball further than most everyone else, but he is also one of the greatest long putters in the game. Don’t forget his short game either, which has improved over the years. His all-around game ranks among the best.

To get an automatic selection to the USA Ryder Cup team, an American golfer must be ranked in the top 10 in the Ryder Cup Team USA Standings. Currently Daly is 20th and this is the last weekend to qualify. Team captain Hal Sutton does get to invite 2 additional players to round out a team of 12. If Daly doesn’t move up into the top 10, I hope he’s the first guy Sutton thinks about.

Not only is Daly one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour this year, but he’s also the most intimidating. How could someone not be intimidated by a smoking fat guy, wearing logos every where, hitting the ball over 300 yards right down the middle of the fairway? I know I would!

I have tickets (which should arrive today) for the Wednesday and Thursday practice days, so I’d love to be able to see John Daly in person. Maybe even sneak in a few photos.

Twice in the past Daly has won one of the majors and was not invited to the Ryder Cup. This should be his year. Other players have played well and also deserve a spot, but no one else brings as much to the table.

Sutton…invite John!

A Swing In Progress

I stopped by the driving range today to work on my golf swing. I recently found out that my backswing was getting too steep, which in turn has been causing me to slice the ball. I hit over 100 balls and was striking it pretty good. There were a few shanks here and there, but that is to be expected when you are trying to change something that’s become habit. It’ll take a few more trips to the range, but I already felt a big difference. In less than a week and half I’ll be up at Boyne Highlands for 3 days, playing 36 holes a day…time is running out.

Hellboy

HellboyI wasn’t expecting much from Hellboy, but it wasn’t too bad. I remember watching commercials on TV for it, thinking that I’d definitely wait for the DVD to come out. I’m glad I didn’t go to the theater to watch it, but I’m glad that I took the time to watch it.

Hellboy is another comic book that has made it to the big screen over the past few years. I really hadn’t even heard of the comic book before until a few weeks ago when someone mentioned that the movie was based on it. It’s kind of a weird story and I wouldn’t know how to explain the main idea of it, so I’ll let you watch it on your own. Nothing in this movie will knock your socks off, but there are a few cool special effects worth a glance.

I give it a C+.
