Can someone explain why the Tigers (3 seed) play the Yankees (1 seed) in the first round? Everyone, except MLB apparently, knows the top seed plays the low seed in brackets, so 1 should play 4 and then 2 should play 3.

Typically the wild-card team plays the team with the best overall record. But if those teams are in the same division, then the wild-card team will face the team with the second-best record.

That makes no sense.

I know right. I am a Tigers fan, and when I found out they were playing the yankees I was confused so I looked it up and that is what I found. I think its dumb but then again, it is the MLB where in half the league the pitchers have to bat and in the other half there is a DH. There are some pretty stupid rules in the MLB.

Seriously. I really didn’t want to have to meet the Tigers in the first round. 🙂

yeah if I was a yankees fan i wouldn’t want to play the tigers, who were 4-2 vs the yankees this year, have the best pitcher in the AL (Verlander) and the player with the highest Batting average in the MLB (Cabrera). Lets also not forget V-Mart whos batting a .330 and Fister who is 8-1 as a Tiger. The tigers are a good team this is going to be a good series they may not win but it will be a good series.
