  1. I got up this morning and i wanted to listen to my ipod and when i turned it on it said disk mode with a checkmark and says”ok to disconnect” what the heck do i do? I dont want to buy a new one! HELP me!! I HAVE held the menu button for like a minute and every other button nothing is working!!!!

  3. my ipod was stuck on ok to disconnect with a check mark in the center. i fixed by holding down the menu button for 10 seconds….thanks for the help. people are saying that nano ipods are a peice of crap. We have 4 in our family and we love them. this is the first time we have had any problems with one.

    to the person whoe ipod blacked out- charge it! sounds simple- it is.

  9. Help I have a brand new ipod nano I am only 14 and have no idea how to fix it.. I have tried everything in the book… I was trying to listen to my new song when the thing just froze so its half menu half song thing… I am really confused and really upset as I spent my savings on this and its really annoying does anyone no how to fix it?? I was playing my three week old ipod nano in my irhythms speaker thing and my ipod stopped playing. it still displayed a screen but nothing would work. it was also very hot. i left it to cool thinking it just overheated but when i came back it was cooled off, had a black screen and wouldn’t turn on. i’ve tried the toggling hold and press menu and center button and the pressing the menu and play button but neither works. what should i do

  18. My ipod nano is stuck in lock mode. I went to apple.com and followed all of the instructions from resetting the ipod, reinstalling the latest itunes software and restoring back to my original settings (3 times). The ipod is still frozen. I am not sure what else to try.

  19. A FIX! My son’s iPod Nano (1st gen) had a hold switch that was permanently on with the lock symbol showing all the time. (He didn’t drop it; it just happened one day.) After trying all the software-type solutions suggested (reset-which wouldn’t work b/c the clickwheel was non-responsive- & restore, etc.) and the physical ones (like tapping it, pressing on it, toggling the hold switch, and checking that the case wasn’t warped) to no avail, I decided to take the sucker apart. (I couldn’t pry it apart until I got a plastic Safe Tool for $5 from powerbookmedic.com. They also have them at ipodmods.com where I found good photos and a take-apart guide for the Nano. After opening the case, removing the battery and 3 screws, I did not have to remove the clickwheel ribbon like they show b/c I was able to rotate the main board enough to get at the switch.) This is scary, but if you’re out-of-warranty, what have you got to lose? Besides, if a 45-yr old mom can do it, surely you can! The problem is that the hold switch had come loose/unsaudered on one side from the main board so there physically wasn’t an electrical connection. Re-saudering did not look feasible given the minute size and position. (I think removing the switch completely would have left the lock permanently on.) However, pressure against the base of the switch (inside the unit) restored function. So, I applied a bead of hot glue to the base of the switch; not to glue anything together, but just to provide a physical bulge. The glue dried hard and, when I closed the unit, it kept pressure on the switch by pressing against the inside of the screen. So far, it’s working fine. BTW, don’t try sticking the hot glue into your open iPod; use a toothpick or some such to apply a small drop of glue. The drop must be applied to the silver rectangular base of the switch, not the tiny stick switch part. Just try pressing against the switch unit. If yours is loose, you’ll see immediately that the lock symbol disappears from the screen. Use the glue to achieve the same pressure effect as you get with your finger.
