On Saturday I take off for NW Michigan for my summer golf trip. I’ll be playing 18 at Little Traverse Bay Golf Club in Harbor Springs on Saturday and then off to Boyne Mountain for a few days to play the Alpine and Monument. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are the heart of the trip, which we call the Hackers/Whackers McDuff Open. 20 guys go for the trip and we play 36 holes of golf each of the three days. Each 18 hole round has a unique format with everything planned out ahead of time. Needless to say, there will be lots of gambling, booze, and laughs.
Over the past week or so I’ve been getting my golf game into top form for the trip. Just call me Lance Armstrong, because I’m peaking at the right time of the season. Saturday I shot a 44, Sunday a 39, and Monday a 40. 50 Titleist Pro V1 balls and a new Nike Dri-Fit shirt arrived on Monday. A few weeks ago I replaced my 3-5 irons with hybrids that are easy to hit and have a nice straight ball flight. About a month ago I bought a new driver, which I’m just crushing. I’ve never been able to hit a driver in my life, but this one is different. I actually have confidence taking it out of the bag. I’ve spent my share of money on golf equipment this summer, even taking a series of 3 lessons, and it is all in preparation for the Hackers/Whackers.
The shit talking has started and signs like the one pictured above have started to appear back in my hometown where most of the golfers live.
In addition to having Monday and Tuesday off work I took Friday off to get ready and Wednesday off to re-cooperate. I can’t wait to get out of town!
